Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Machinist to support the manufacture, repair, and improvement of precision components and tooling used in oil & gas operations. In this role, you will machine parts to exact specifications, troubleshoot machining and process issues, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that reinforce SLB’s focus on innovation, operational excellence, and sustainability. You will work in a safety-first environment where quality, reliability, and responsible resource use are core expectations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Machine precision parts and assemblies using CNC and/or manual equipment (e.g., lathes, mills, grinders) to meet engineering drawings, GD&T requirements, and production standards.
  • Set up, operate, and adjust machining equipment, including selecting tooling, setting offsets, verifying programs (where applicable), and completing first-article checks.
  • Interpret technical documentation including prints, work instructions, routings, and inspection plans; verify dimensions using precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, height gauges, indicators, bore gauges, etc.).
  • Maintain quality and traceability by completing required documentation, following inspection and nonconformance processes, and supporting root-cause investigations for defects.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts (scrap reduction, cycle-time improvement, tool life optimization, and process standardization) using structured problem-solving.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineers, planners, quality, and operations teams to resolve manufacturability issues and improve product reliability.
  • Practice safe work behaviors and comply with all applicable safety, environmental, and shop procedures; participate in hazard identification and mitigation.
  • Contribute to sustainability-minded operations by minimizing material waste, supporting reuse/rework where appropriate, and improving efficiency (e.g., coolant management, optimized cutting parameters, and energy-conscious machine use).
  • Maintain equipment and work area through routine TPM activities, basic preventative maintenance, and 5S/housekeeping standards.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical/vocational machining certificate strongly preferred.
  • 3+ years of machinist experience in a manufacturing environment (oil & gas, aerospace, industrial, or similarly high-precision industry preferred).
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Working knowledge of machining processes, tooling selection, and materials (e.g., alloy steels, stainless steels, nickel alloys).
  • Ability to meet physical requirements (standing, lifting, working in a shop environment) and follow safety procedures.
