About the job

As an integral member of our team, you will play a pivotal role in performing a variety of duties to disassemble, inspect, repair, measure, and assemble products and subassemblies to bring them up to specification standards. You will have the opportunity to set up and operate machine tools, fit and assemble parts to make or repair metal parts, mechanisms, tools, or machines. Products supported include high-speed separators, decanters, WHE units, pumps, and valves for our internal and external customers. Currently, this is an on-site opportunity located in Greenwood, IN.

As a part of the team, you will:

  • Perform equipment receipt, uncrate, clean, strip, and tear down units.
  • Inspect, repair, service, test, and package following the company's policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety guidelines.
  • Work from drawings, parts lists, blueprints, charts, tables, and graphs to evaluate and assist in estimating repair costs, time, and materials or parts needed to repair assemblies and subassemblies.
  • Follow the quality plan per job to repair products.
  • Diagnose, check, and correct mechanical functions through adjustments, using various tools and approved repair methods.
  • Set up and operate test stands and related equipment as required.
  • Record written test results on appropriate test documents.
  • Paint, pack, crate, and document shipment of units, parts, and materials.
  • Move material inside the shop as needed (using forklifts, cranes, etc.).
  • Recognize and communicate the need for replenishment of supplies, tools, repair parts, and other facility needs to supervision in a timely manner.
  • Keep work area and surrounding equipment clean and organized. Perform housekeeping as required at the facility to maintain a professional presentation – (follows 5S guidelines).
  • Set up and balance rotating equipment using approved balancing methods as required.
  • May be asked to perform some field service work from time to time (not frequent or required).
  • Actively participate in ALPS meetings.
  • Reconstruct parts using manual machining equipment and utilizing mechanical machinist/engineering principles.
  • Determine dimensions and tolerances of pieces to be machined.
  • Determine sequence of operations and machines required by studying specifications, such as blueprints, sketches, damaged parts, or descriptions of parts.
  • Plan, set up, and execute assignments using machine tools ranging from drills, lathes to milling machines.
  • Independently identify, select, and adjust tools, jaws, and fixtures appropriate for the repair.
  • Utilize precision measuring instruments to check the accuracy of work.

What you know:

You have a Machinist Certification and a high school degree or equivalent, with relevant experience, and:

  • Typically 2-3 years in a machine shop/manual repair environment - preferred.
  • Experience operating forklift trucks, hand pallet jacks, and overhead cranes.
  • Experience with vibration analyzing/balancing equipment is a plus.
  • Machine shop training in mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties and layout, machining procedures, and complicated blueprints/drawings - preferred.
  • Precision machining with experience in setting up and operating machine shop equipment, such as lathes, mills, and drill presses - preferred.
