TITLE Machinist
LOCATION Cairo, GA DEPARTMENT 12 – Machine Shop
SHIFT 1st (6:00am – 2:30pm) CLASSIFICATION Hourly Non-Exempt
REPORTS TO Machine Shop Supervisor GRADE 03
/Purpose
The Machinist will be responsible for quality parts and tooling using machines such as lathes, mills, surface grinders and all other machines in the machine shop area. He/she will work closely with Engineering and Operations. Support new product development as needed.
Essential Duties and Accountabilities:
• Set-up and operate machine tools such as engine lathes, milling machines, saws, grinders, and all other tools and fixtures
• Plan and perform machining operations to produce a variety of special, experimental and repair parts as well as perform a wide variety of repairs and assemblies that may require fastening, welding, soldering or some design.
• Proficient in using precision measuring devices such as CMM, optical comparator, hand-held micrometers, etc.
• Select proper feeds and speeds according to material type, finish requirements, and efficient machine utilization
• The skills level for this position requires tolerance for turning milling, drilling, and sharpening to .001 or less on location and size
• Operate various CNC logic equipment with the ability to program strongly preferred
• Demonstrate basic skills in grind, lapping, and honing
• Responsible for general safety including Lockout/Tagout
• Use hand tools, power tools and precision measuring tools
• Responsible for keeping the work area clean and safe
• Perform Preventative and Predictive Maintenance
• Understand the impact on Department KPI’s
• Use TMS (Maintenance Management Software)
Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Advanced blueprint reading (understands tolerancing, detailed views, design concepts, drafting techniques) – Assists Engineering with design improvements.
• Must have basic computer skills
• Thorough understanding of grinding principles and gauging techniques
• Good problem solving/troubleshooting skills, good team building skills and effective communication skills
• This position will require moderate to heavy physical requirements
• Use of hand tools including wrenches, screw drivers, ratchets
• Math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, decimals, conversion from English to Metric and vice versa
Education and Experience:
• High School Diploma or GED equivalent required
• 2-year College degree in Machining or Certificate in Machining preferred
• 1 Year Plus experience in manufacturing processes
• Minimum 1-year proven experience in milling, drilling, turning and grinding processes
• CMM experience preferred
• CNC programming experience preferred

• Work is performed in a normal manufacturing area
• This position has an exposure to moderate noise levels, moving mechanical parts, electrical power distribution and controls, compressed air systems, hydraulic systems, steam distribution and generation, water, various types of lubricants, chemical and wash baths, extreme heat, mechanical machine operation, etc.
• Must be able to stand up for 8 hours.
• Will be regularly required to climb, stand, sit, and reach with hands, fingers, and arms.
• Occasional stooping, kneeling, and crouching are required.
• This position requires regular lifting of work up to 40 pounds, and push or pulling work up to 125 pounds with proper equipment.
