Job Description

JOB PURPOSE or JOB SUMMARY:

Service, repair, recondition and assemble customer and company cylinders, new or used. Maintain and operate shop equipment and tolls, performing quality work, as quickly and profitably as possible. Sell Certified Power’s parts, labor, and whole goods service 100% of the time.

Contributes to a positive working culture, builds strong relationships, and lives out the values of integrity, collaboration, and accountability.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Machine raw materials or modify old products as assigned by Service Manager.
  • Diagnose problems and determine what repairs are needed.
  • Perform any inspections as required.
  • Machine any products.
  • Keep accurate, easy-to-read records of work performed.
  • Maintain a clean work area.
  • Maintain safe work habits.
  • Check and report any shortages and malfunctions to the service manager.
  • Maintain and care for all shop tools, machines, and equipment.
  • Complete assessment of writeup for materials available and make Service Manager aware of shortages.
  • Notify Service Manager when parts need to be expedited.
  • Suggest any additional repairs needed to Service Manager and/or customer.
  • Make a point to thank every customer. Communication with the customer is a key element of good relations.
  • Dress like a professional every day.
  • Periodically review product bulletins, catalogs, and parts book.
  • Attend company functions and meetings, visiting with customers.
  • Help maintain cleanliness, neatness and safety of building and lot.
  • Do not second-guess other technician’s work.
  • Do not assume any liability or place any blame on the company, manufacturers, or other technicians.
  • Stay current with technical changes.
  • Give special attention to repeat repairs or comebacks to correct problems and avoid future shop comebacks and unnecessary expenses.
  • Help control expenses and produce as much quality work as possible.
  • Treat the customers and co-workers in a friendly, courteous manner. Always represent Certified Power as a professional Service Technician.
  • Supply own hand tools in a neat and professional chest.
  • Occasionally cross train to cover absences for other departments personnel.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS:

  • Frequently required to stand at a workstation for long period of time.
  • Ability to lift 50lbs. when required.
  • Ability to speak to and hear employees/clients via phone or in person.
  • Body motor skills sufficient to enable incumbent to move around a shop environment.
  • Use chemicals with PPE, adhesives, solvents, lubricants, epoxies, paints, and inks as required.
  • Additional Mental Requirements: compare, decide, problem solve, analyze, and interpret.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

  • Work hours average 40 per week; may require additional hours including evening and weekends depending on business needs.
  • Standard work hours for the service department are Monday through Friday, 7am – 4pm.
  • Work typically performed in an indoor shop environment.

Tools and Equipment Used

  • Basic hand tools including but not limited to allen wrenches, adjustable wrenches, box end wrenches, screw drivers, hammers, sockets, and ratchet wrenches.
  • Power and pneumatic tools including but not limit to angle grinders, die grinders, air drills, air chisels, Impact wrenches, torque multipliers, torches, band saw, electric drill, circular saw, cranes, and forklift.
  • Various diagnostic equipment, test stands and test fixtures.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 2-year fluid power degree or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to drive and be certified to drive a forklift
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
