Machining Engineer

The Machining Engineer II is responsible for supporting the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of machining and manufacturing processes. This role works closely with cross-functional teams—including operations, technicians, sourcing, and project management—to drive safety, quality, efficiency, and cost effectiveness.

This position requires hands-on technical expertise, problem-solving, and ownership of assigned processes and projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates our core competencies: Action oriented, change champion, customer-focused, developing self & others, and ownership
  • Support new process introduction, process qualification, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot and resolve machining and manufacturing issues.
  • Analyze process data, metrics, and performance indicators to identify inefficiencies and implement solutions.
  • Develop, update, and maintain machining process plans (MPPs), work instructions, and technical documentation.
  • Support integration of new tooling, equipment, and technologies to improve efficiency and reduce cost.
  • Experience with CNC machine programming using MasterCAM.
  • Partner with design engineering and supply chain to support design for manufacturability (DFM).
  • Ensure compliance with engineering standards, best practices, and quality requirements.
  • Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action activities for nonconformances.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, lead time, and cost reduction.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to shop floor personnel as needed.
  • Drive a shop-centric mindset by maintaining strong engagement with machining operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related discipline required or 7+ years of related experience.
  • Experience in gas turbine or heavy manufacturing environments preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in a machining or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and process documentation.
  • Ability to write technical reports, work instructions, and standard operating procedures.
  • Solid understanding of machining processes (e.g., CNC machining, tooling, fixturing, GD&T preferred).
  • Ability to analyze data and apply basic statistical and mathematical concepts to problem-solving.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently on moderately complex issues.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with engineering systems (e.g., CAD, ERP/MRP systems preferred).
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams and functions.
  • Experience with process optimization, automation, or lean manufacturing.
