The primary responsibility of this position is to provide optimum sourcing of machinery components for the CSI Machinery and Capping Divisions from outside suppliers. The candidate ensures the best balance of price, quality, and delivery of critical components for CSI’s machines. Candidate is knowledgeable / experienced in mechanical design, is able to read / interpret engineering drawings, understand incumbent CSI supplier base (machine shops) and their capabilities, identifies & develops new suppliers to ensure CSI’s equipment cost structure remains competitive while maintaining industry leading equipment performance.
This position works very closely with and provides support to CSI’s Machinery & Capping engineering and quality departments related to machinery design, engineering documentations, troubleshooting parts quality issues, etc.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collects and sends all relevant documents to suppliers as part of the RFQ process.
- Follow up with suppliers on RFQ’s, to ensure machinery components are sourced in a timely and most optimum fashion.
- Manage supplier delivery schedules. Follow up proactively before parts are due & communicate delivery status (on time or delay) to affected teams to ensure seamless operational continuity.
- Work with CSI’s quality department relative to understanding supplier quality performance and incorporating that onto future sourcing decisions.
- Perform cost and data analysis across the entire CSI Machinery & Capping supply chain.
- Develop and execute cost savings strategies to meet budget requirements.
- Able to negotiate cost savings with suppliers.
- Primary liaison between CSI engineering, customer service and procurement.
- When machinery components are “no bid”, understand why.
- Expedite supplier deliveries of critical components when required by our business.
- Perform value engineering work aimed at reducing cost to produce and/or improve performance of CSI’s machines.
- Assist quality and engineering departments with identifying new potential suppliers particularly for single sourced machinery components.
- Identify replacement parts to address issues with long lead-times as well as obsolescence issues.
- Communicate clearly, both verbally and written.
- Work on-site (Crawfordsville, IN) as scheduled or required for specific role.
- Conformance to company performance rules such as work instructions, working standards, policies, etc.
- Conformance to behavioral rules, expectations, and all company policies.
- Full compliance with all pertinent safety policies and procedures.
- Able to travel as required by specific role.
Educational and Other Skill RequirementsEducational and Other Skill Requirements:
- Position demands high level of professionalism and organizational skills.  Also important is the ability to analyze data and develop cost savings strategies.  Excellent communication skills are essential. Ability to understand common machining processes to help with supplier selection.
- Education/Training Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, mechanical engineering technology or other relevant engineering discipline. Proficiency in MS Suites is required. Proficiency in Oracle EBS is a plus.
- Professional experience in a related field is a plus, but not required.
