Job Description
Thompson First Group is seeking Brake Press / Punch Press Operators for contract-to-hire positions with a local client. Candidates with experience operating brake press, punch press, and CNC-controlled equipment in a manufacturing environment are encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities
- Set up and operate brake press and punch press machinery, including selecting tooling and adjusting machine programs.
- Interpret blueprints, schematics, and job routings to determine machine settings and production requirements.
- Perform trial runs and make adjustments to ensure part accuracy and consistency.
- Conduct in-process inspections to verify parts meet quality standards and specified tolerances.
- Utilize measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and angle gauges to ensure dimensional accuracy.
- Perform minor machine maintenance and keep equipment in proper working condition.
- Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area.
- Meet daily production goals related to quality, efficiency, and waste reduction.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and maintain high standards of workmanship.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional technical education is a plus.
- 1–3 years of experience operating brake press or punch press machinery in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with CNC-controlled brake press equipment preferred.
- Ability to read blueprints, engineering drawings, and apply basic shop math.
- Proficiency using measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and angle gauges.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing principles and 5S practices is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and work in varying indoor and outdoor conditions.
- Ability to work in a non-temperature-controlled environment.
- Willingness to wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE).
