Hours of Operation:
Monday through Friday + Overtime/Weekends
1st Shift: 5:50AM to 2:00PM
2nd Shift: 1:50PM to 10:00PM
3rd Shift: 9:50PM to 6:00AM

The Scaler is responsible for correctly scaling and weighing the proper ingredients for the specified dough mixture that is scheduled for production in the Mixing department. This position exists to ensure the utmost quality of all products being produced and packaged at the plant.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Check the schedule to determine the ingredients and the amounts needed to be scaled/weighed during a shift.
• Prepare scales for the weighing process.
• Select specified ingredients for dough mixture.
• Accurately weigh each ingredient per specified formulas and instructions.
• Sift lumpy ingredients as needed.
• Place ingredients in designated bags.
• Record shift, ingredients and initials on the bags.
• Record all lot numbers on the bags.
• Place ingredient bags weighing up to 100 lbs. on moving cart.
• Sweep, clean and mop work area; Cleans barrel carts; Washes utensils.
• Communicate changes, instructions, etc. to the scalers on the next production shift.
• Work in close proximity to co-workers.
• Work with minimal supervision and at times independently.
• Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) at all times.
• Verbally communicate instructions, problems, etc. to co-workers, supervisors and employees from all departments.
• Meet Company attendance standards of start and end time for work as scheduled.
• Comply with all safety, health and environmental regulations as prescribed by law.
• Comply with all Company rules, regulations and policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Reaching with hands/arms throughout shift.
• Ability to use hands and fingers.
• Ability to see, hear and talk.
• Lift/carry up to 100 lbs.
• Ability to work in light to moderate noise levels; hearing protection may be required.
• Able to walk up to 400 yards to work areas.
• Stand eight hours per shift.
• Communicate in English to give and acknowledge instructions and problems.
• Physical and mental ability to work in excess of 40 hours per week.
• Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
• Repetitive reaching over head, under and across throughout shift.
• Perform general housekeeping, including sweeping, mopping, etc.
• May climb steps to and from work and break areas.
• Good hand/eye coordination and manual dexterity for repetitive tasks.
• Ability to work in a fast paced environment in close proximity to others.
• Ability to distinguish colors.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in various units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimal.
• Ability to work in variable temperatures and weather conditions.
• Repetitive bending, stooping and twisting throughout shift.
• Ability to work in wet, humid areas.
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram and schedule form.
• Ability to work well with others in stressful situations and meet deadlines as necessary.
• May work near moving mechanical parts and may be exposed to electrical shock, fumes, airborne particles and vibration.
• May be required to work in high precarious places and/or in outside weather conditions.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
• Maintain harmonious working relations with employees from all departments.
• Maintain harmonious working relations with management from all levels.
• Communicate effectively with all employees and management.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
• High school diploma or G.E.D. preferred.
• Zero - One year experience in a manufacturing environment; Experience in the baking industry a plus.
• Basic math and reading skills required.
• Ability to measure and read scales and thermometers; Understands units of measurement.
• Ability to work safely on any shift (8-12 hours/day), weekends and overtime.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and independently at times.
