Responsibilities

The Machine Operator assists in producing and controlling the quality of film produced. Ensures product quality and control of production processes. Provides a safe work environment through proper training and communication. This position is responsible for working closely with the Team Supervisor, Process Dept., and Maintenance to ensure customer quality expectations and site goals and objectives are met.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Adheres to all safety policies and procedures and ensures all team members work within the safety guidelines.
  • Complete safety orientation and forklift, pole truck, clamp truck, and claw truck certification training.
  • Complete behavior-based Safety and Quality audits monthly.
  • Have a basic understanding of how the extrusion process works with relations to film properties, web handling, raw materials, and finished product.
  • Have basic understanding of our product, customer specifications and visual inspection requirements.
  • Learn how to accurately enter and review key film properties in Quality Windows.
  • Has general knowledge of and operates within the guidelines of FIFO, 5S and/or other Lean Manufacturing structures.
  • Help maintain sufficient labeling & packaging supplies during and at the end of shift.
  • Assists in the training of new-hires.
  • Responsible for ensuring all finished product is within customer specifications.
  • Ensures that all test data sheets are verified, that all data falls within specified targets and is positively signed.
  • Completes proper documentation in line log and other line paperwork.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all outgoing products are labeled and packaged according to customer specifications.
  • Responsible for proper housekeeping of the line and adjacent areas.
  • Works with maintenance to complete minor and preventative maintenance on the line.
  • Maintains communication with Lead Operators, Team Supervisors and production management of any problems experienced on the line that could result in an extended period of downtime, a quality reject or personal injury.
  • Learn the line thread up and winding procedures.
  • Learn the core cutting procedures.
  • Learn process roll care/cleaning/film wrapping removal procedures.
  • Learn the procedure to safely change screen packs.
  • Must complete all job task checklists within first 90 days of employment.
  • Must complete cross-training on other lines
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
  • 1-3 years manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of standard office machines and computer software including MS Office Suite
  • Ability to operate, monitor, and adjust machinery or production equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Ability to read and follow work instructions, production schedules, safety procedures, and quality standards.
  • Basic math, measurement, and counting skills, including ability to use rulers, gauges, calipers, or other measuring tools if required.
  • Ability to perform basic quality checks and identify defects, equipment issues, or product inconsistencies.
  • Ability to document production activity, such as counts, downtime, scrap, or quality results.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain consistent production output.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and meet production goals.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, bend, lift, push, pull, and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to lift up to a specified weight, commonly 25–50 pounds, depending on the role.
  • Willingness to follow all company safety policies, including use of required PPE.
  • Ability to work assigned shift, overtime, weekends, or rotating schedules as needed.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude or ability to troubleshoot minor machine issues preferred.
  • Reliable attendance and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Ability to stand and walk 12 hours or more a day on concrete, solid metal or corrugated metal surfaces to perform production duties. Employee must be able to work rotating 8 hour shifts if needed. Ability to sit while driving and operating material handling equipment 1- 3 hours per shift. Ability to sit while entering data into computers, reviewing data, completing reports, etc.

Employee must be able to climb, bend, stoop and crawl. Employee must be able to lift up to 35 pounds. Required to frequently ascend and descend up to three flights of stairs over extremely fast moving machinery. Required to safely access fast moving machinery which includes rolls with inward nip points.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Area may or may not be air conditioned or heated, and may be humid and hot or cold depending on seasonal conditions. Exposure to hot and/or abrasive surfaces.

Required to be in tight spaces on occasion and to heights daily. Possible exposure to noise levels over 90 decibels for 12 hours at certain locations. Moving machinery or moving objects on production floor. Floor surfaces slippery at times.

Exposure to outside elements on occasion.

MENTAL ABILITIES:

Ability to make decisions regarding work priorities. Ability to read charts and document numbers and events on paper and in computer. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Ability to interact with digital and basic computerized record & control systems.
