Job Description

General Job Objective:

Perform set ups and operate machines to produce parts to blueprint specifications in support of and meeting production schedules. Employee will set up and perform a wide range of cutting, burning, drilling, boring, tapping, reaming, milling, facing and turning operations on the machines to produce a wide variety of parts and weldments from various ferrous and non-ferrous metals and alloys using advanced machining methods and programming techniques. Incumbent expected to support all company programs such as Lean, 5S, TPR, etc.

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Able to Claim labor in BAAN
  • Maintain operator level PM's
  • Ability to identify materials
  • Use process and set up sheets
  • Read Blue Prints / Machine Drawings
  • Ability to read standard measuring devices to the nearest .0312 (1/32")
  • Understand basic geometric dimensioning & tolerances
  • Ability to inspect parts produced for non-conformance
  • Perform basic shop math
  • Set up and use standard fixturing (Small Parts)
  • Able to call up programs and operate CNC controls
  • Ability to set up and run 2 axis machine center
  • Use data collection tools
  • **Operate a group 1 or higher machining center
  • Participate in a SMED

** Operate is defined as the ability to produce parts to specification without the assistance of another operator

** All machine tool trainees begin classification as a Machine operator

Essential Job Functions:

  • Must be able to consistently hold tolerances as specified on prints and drawings.

  • Must be able to perform all start up, routine maintenance procedures, and shut down processes for their assigned machine(s)

  • Other duties as determined by supervision.

  • Must be able to operate at least one Group 1 machining centers. See Appendix A “Machine Tool Groups”

This position is located on the production shop floor, in multiple buildings. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use tools or controls. The employee is frequently required to stand, reach, climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Incumbent will work in a typical fabrication environment including the use of solvents, adhesives, hydraulic oil, petroleum products, etc. There is frequent lifting and/or moving of up to 50 pounds.

Education & Experience Requirements:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
  • Experience with CNC programming preferred with knowledge and experience operating the specific make and model machining center where the vacancy exists.

Health & Safety Requirements:

  • Maintain departmental housekeeping and 5S standards.
  • Perform job functions in a safe manner.
  • Wear all Personal Protective Equipment (P.P.E.) required by Company Policy for the job being performed.
  • Know and follow established job specific and facility wide safety and health procedures and rules.
  • Actively participate in safety and health training and demonstrate competency based on training received.
  • Bring safety and health issues, unsafe acts, and safety suggestions to management’s attention or correct those you can.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Formal training from an accredited vocational or trade school
