The Milliken "Highland" Industrial Textiles Plant , located in Cheraw SC, has an immediate need to fill a " Slasher Tender" position on Second Shift. The Slasher Tender is responsible for operating and monitoring slashing equipment used to prepare warp yarns for the weaving process. This position plays a critical role in ensuring yarn quality, production efficiency, and the safe operation of equipment while maintaining established production and quality standards. The seccessful applicant will be responsible for loading and unloading yarn into the slasher machine; The machine applies a size coating to the yarn as it runs through the process, according to work instructions. The Slasher Tender will repair yarn end breaks, doff and creel warp beams and is responsible for the quality of loom beams produced.

2nd Shift
Monday – Thursday
5:00 PM – 3:00 AM

This position works an average four-day, 10-hour shift schedule, providing a three-day weekend each week.

Job Requirements:

  • Prior Slashing experience preferred
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs
  • Must be able to bend over machine for extended periods
  • Must have excellent vision (Vision Check with Nurse is required) Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Must work safe, attend all required safety meetings and report unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Operate slashing equipment according to established operating procedures. Load sets on slasher with help from slasher helper.
  • Lay yarn in hook reed and combs.
  • Set controls for slasher as per process control sheet.
  • Complete operator checklist.
  • Process the work order and record all required information.
  • Monitor machine performance and production processes to ensure efficient operation.
  • Thread and prepare warp yarns for processing.
  • Maintain proper tension, alignment, and quality standards throughout the slashing process.
  • Perform routine inspections and make minor operational adjustments as needed.
  • Record production information and complete required documentation accurately.
  • Communicate equipment issues, quality concerns, and production updates to supervision.
  • Follow all safety, environmental, and quality procedures.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area in accordance with housekeeping standards.
  • Assist with machine setup, changeovers, and other departmental activities as required.
  • Determine and retrieve hook reed and combs.
  • Perform all computer entries.
  • Housekeeping duties as instructed by the supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Previous manufacturing, textile, machine operation, or industrial experience preferred.
  • Textile preparation, warping, or slashing experience is a plus but not required.
  • Ability to learn and safely operate industrial equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Dependable attendance and punctuality.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude preferred.
  • Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and move materials as required by the job.
  • Ability to bend, reach, stoop, and perform repetitive motions.
  • Ability to work safely around moving machinery and industrial equipment.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
