Wieland is hiring a Machine Operator The Machine Operator will be responsible for safely and efficiently operating the Rolling Mill with a team member (Operator 2) using established metallurgical guidelines. The operator must assist with maintaining a production schedule for the equipment that includes processing material, material handling, tooling changeovers, and PM’s. This role is located in Wheeling, IL, and will be fully on-site.

Hourly Pay Range $21/hr to $26/hr, plus $2.00/hr 3rd shift difference

Work Schedule 3rd shift: Sunday - Thursday, 10 PM to 6 AM. Overtime is available.

Pay Schedule Bi-weekly

Responsibilities

Machine Operator Responsibilities:

  • Work independently and as part of a team with safety as the number one priority. Properly follow company and OSHA safety procedures. Bring problems to the attention of the Supervisor, Safety or HR.
  • Safely operating the equipment on and around RM including coil changeovers, roll changes (work and backup), monitoring the quality of material running, and basic maintenance. Material handling.
  • Loading and unloading coils on machine.
  • Setting up the equipment for production.
  • Following and adjusting schedule developed by the Planning Department.
  • Frontline line trouble shooting of RM and its associated equipment/communicating needs/issues to the Production Management and Maintenance Department as they arise.
  • Performing in-process inspection, preparing and visually inspecting samples for QA; reduce scrap and monitor material quality
  • Crosstrain in other areas of the Production Department and train other employees as RM Operator.
  • Ensure a safe and environmentally responsible plant according to the applying regulations, and maintain a safe, clean and organized work area.
  • Maintain 5S improvements.
  • Cooperate with other areas to continuously improve quality, machine uptime, efficiency and productivity.

Machine Operator Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • One year of industrial machine experience required.
  • Ability to work with calipers, micrometers, and other types of testing equipment required.
  • Ability to work under pressure with high stress levels required.
  • Maintain production schedule.
  • Monitor material quality, including flatness, gauge, hardness, grain size, and surface finish.
  • Must be able to learn and safely operate an overhead crane, forklift, and pallet Jacks. (motorized and manual).
  • Willing to work on short notice, volunteer overtime, and/or required overtime as needed.
  • Ensure proper identification of coils and samples.
  • Achieve production throughput, yield, and scrap goals.
  • Maintain a positive attitude in a team environment

Machine Operator Physical Demands:

  • The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Involves periods of standing, walking, and negotiating stairs, ladders, elevated catwalks, and platforms in hot or cold production environment on slippery surfaces for the purpose of directing operations and evaluating situations.
  • Personal Protective Equipment, e.g., safety glasses, electrostatic discharge jacket, earplugs, etc.
  • Occasionally lift up to 50 lbs maximum.
