The Machine Operator operates production machine(s) that packages a variety of products.

Key Responsibilities

Essential Job Duties
  • Reads schedule to obtain work orders and volume of packages to be produced.
  • Selects, positions, and secures packaging such as film, cubes, boxes, containers, etc.
  • Positions and secures proper former and loads hopper with correct product.
  • Moves controls to adjust print and checks seals for quality (bags).
  • Observes operation of machine and verifies conformance of packaging to specifications.
  • Labels boxes that have been inspected and signed off by supervisor.
  • Packages packaging in labeled boxes and loads pallets for shipment.
  • Cleans and maintains work area and equipment.
  • Able to be forklift certified (if needed).
  • Able to work overtime and weekends when needed.
  • Follow and practice safety rules and regulations.

  • This job follows standard practices and procedures, and is expected to accomplish work assignments with a limited amount of supervision.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Knowledge and Skill Requirements
  • Language Ability: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Ability to read and understand English.
  • Math Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Computer Skills: Ability to function/control/program machine’s internal computer system
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or two to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Prior forklift training and experience preferred.
Physical Demands
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and taste or smell. Able to stand for a long period of time.
Work Environment
  • Work is performed in a plant/production floor environment and disruptions occur infrequently.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
