In this role you will lead and coordinate the machine build automation and PLC activities to ensure reliable, safe, and efficient assembly and test systems for series production. Support product and process development, drive continuous improvement, and ensure compliance with technical and safety standards.
What will you do?

Supervise daily activities of the Machine Build Automation and PLC team, including scheduling, task allocation and coaching of technicians and engineers.
Manage PLC systems (programming, commissioning, troubleshooting and maintenance) across assembly machines and test rigs to ensure availability and performance.
Oversee machine build projects from specification through FAT/SAT to handover, ensuring project milestones, quality, safety and documentation requirements are met.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives for automation hardware, software and machine processes to improve OEE, reduce downtime and enhance product quality.
Ensure process compliance with engineering specifications, safety regulations and company standards; lead root‑cause analysis and corrective actions for non‑conformances.
Coordinate cross‑functional work with design, production, quality, maintenance and suppliers to align technical solutions and delivery schedules.
Maintain technical documentation including PLC code repositories, electrical schematics, machine manuals, PM plans and commissioning reports.
Support capacity and change programmes by providing technical expertise during product launches and ramp‑up phases.
Develop people through on‑the‑job coaching, training plans and performance feedback; promote a safety‑first, collaborative culture.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and coach a multi‑disciplinary team of automation technicians and PLC engineers.
Plan and oversee machine builds, installations and commissioning activities.
Review and approve PLC and HMI programs, ensuring secure version control and traceability.
Implement preventive maintenance and test strategies to sustain machine reliability.
Monitor KPIs such as OEE, MTTR, MTBF, downtime causes and first‑time‑right commissioning metrics.
Perform Gemba walks and technical audits; escalate and resolve deviations promptly.
Manage supplier relationships for control panels, drives, sensors and related automation components.
Ensure compliance with electrical and functional safety standards .
What you'll bring
A technical qualification in electrical, automation, mechatronics or similar field (apprenticeship, HND, degree or equivalent experience).
Typically 5+ years’ experience in machine automation, PLC programming and team supervision within a production environment.
Hands‑on knowledge of PLC platforms (e.g., Siemens, Rockwell/Allen‑Bradley or similar), HMIs and industrial networks.
Proven experience in commissioning, fault diagnosis and delivering machine build projects to schedule.
Familiarity with electrical diagrams, pneumatics, motor drives, servo systems and safety circuitry.
Demonstrated leadership and communication skills; ability to work cross‑functionally and develop team capability.
Fluent English (written and spoken); additional languages are advantageous depending on site needs.
