Job Description

The ESA National Graduate Trainee (NGT) Programmes offer recent Master’s graduates the opportunity to gain practical, hands-on experience at ESA across a range of space-related disciplines. The programmes are essentially similar to ESA’s own Graduate Trainee Programme, notably in offering the same employment conditions. They however differ in one important respect: each NGT Programme is funded by an individual ESA Member State or Associate Member under a bilateral partnership agreement concluded with ESA.

As a result, a representative of the sponsoring State participates in the selection process. In addition to assessing candidates against the requirements of the position, the selection may also include an evaluation of their background and knowledge of the space policies and related activities of the sponsoring State.

Our team and mission

The Industrial Policy and Space Economy Division is in charge of:

• establishing and maintaining a close relation with the Member States regarding industrial policy;
• pursuing the proactive management of the geographical return objectives of the Agency through its procurement activities, and monitoring/ensuring its proper implementation;
• contributing to the definition of the geographical return objectives for all ESA programmes and activities;
• interacting with non-Member States and European institutions for aspects relevant to industrial policy;
• assessing the economic impact of space activities notably through socioeconomic studies in collaboration with national and international organisations, in particular the OECD;
• contributing to the preparation of new programmes of the Agency via assessments of their expected economic benefits with a view to maximising them.

Field(s) of activity/research for the traineeship

As a Luxembourgish National Graduate Trainee, you will have the opportunity to support the team in a variety of activities, such as:

• supporting the analysis of the socioeconomic impact of space activities and the socioeconomic studies;
• supporting studies on various topics related to the space economy;
• supporting the preparation of the ESA Space Economy Report;
• supporting the organisation of space economy events;
• supporting the communication on ESA Space Economy activities;
• supporting the coordination with the activities of the European Centre for Space Economy and Commerce (ECSECO).

Education

You should have recently completed, or be in the final year of, your master’s degree in economics.

Additional requirements

You should have good interpersonal and communication skills and should be able to work in a multicultural environment, both independently and as part of a team. Previous experience of working in international teams will be considered an asset. Your motivation, overall professional outlook and career goals will be explored during the later stages of the selection process.
