Job Description

LunaSCOPE, a NASA SSERVI Team based in Brown University's Department of Earth, Environmental, and Planetary Sciences (DEEPS) in Providence, RI invites applications for a two-year LunaSCOPE Postdoctoral Research Associate.

Postdoctoral associates will conduct independent research that compliments and enhances existing LunaSCOPE research into the Moon on topics of (1) magma oceans, (2) magnetism, (3) volcanism and tectonism, (4) volatiles, and (5) regolith and impacts. We are particularly interested in candidates interested in bridging two or more existing themes. We encourage applicants to identify potential mentors and directly contact Brown LunaSCOPE investigators in these thematic areas to discuss potential projects before applying.

Qualifications

Applicants must have completed all doctoral degree requirements by the position start date (preferred January 1, 2027) or have received their degree within 3 years of the position start date (January 1, 2024 for the preferred start date). Degree may be from a relevant field of study including planetary science, geophysics, geochemistry, physics/astronomy, statistics, mathematics, engineering or a related field. For this position, Brown offers only the J-1 visa classification to scholars who need immigration sponsorship in order to enter the U.S. and commence lawful employment under the terms of their appointment.

Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae and a statement of research that includes a summary of research accomplishments, current research goals, identification of potential Brown faculty sponsor(s) and a short overview of proposed research to be conducted during the postdoc (no more than 3 pages). Candidates should address in their materials how they would contribute to the research and/or teaching missions of our diverse and inclusive university community. In addition, we request names and contact information for two individuals willing to provide recommendations if the candidate is shortlisted.
