Lumberyard Service & Delivery Associate (CDL Class B Requested)


Location: Do It Best – Big Rapids Lumber & Hardware


Responsible for serving BRL&H customers in an engaging way. Our purpose
is to provide our existing and new customers with value, form and function building products. We provide our customers with the best customer service in the industry. This is a preferred CDL position responsible for loading, transporting and dropping off materials while providing professional customer service to contractors and do-it-yourselfers. This is accomplished by appropriately using company vehicles and equipment to deliver products to customers in a safe and timely manner. Safety, building loads, inventory control and product knowledge are all components of this position. You will participate and contribute to company goals and our strategic plan.


Core Duties and Responsibilities
  • Responsible for delivering material to customer's jobsites using the most efficient route available.
  • Complies with all highway rules and regulations.
  • Ensures that delivery schedules are met while providing friendly and professional service.
  • Assists customers with loading and/or unloading of materials while at the job site.
  • Completes required orientation and safety training.
  • Commits to continued learning on products, packages, procedures and more.
  • Meets and greets contractors and do-it-yourselfers while providing exceptional customer service by assisting with the selection and loading of materials.
  • Accurately pulls and stages materials to be picked up or delivered to ensure schedules are met.
  • Contributes to maintaining the inventory in the yard by conducting cycle counts, keeping the yard organized, ensuring the correct material is shipped and received.
  • Follows all policies and procedures in the yard including sales, inventory and safety.
  • Properly uses and maintains all equipment.
Qualifications / Requirements
  • Energetic, forward-thinking and creative individual with high ethical standards and an appropriate professional image.
  • Preferred: CDL Class A License
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong basic mathematical and cognitive skills.
  • Commitment to company values and team work.
  • Ability to solve problems and a passion for customer service
  • Detail oriented
  • Previous delivery experience, preferably with building materials
  • An acceptable driving record (some states require a chauffeur license)
  • Familiarity with building materials and delivery equipment is desirable
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule (Possibility of 1-2 Saturdays 8:00-3:00 a month)

Education / Training / Experience
  • High School degree a minimum
  • Experience in the Building Industry (a strong plus)
  • Working knowledge on deliveries and wood-shop operations

Position Opportunity:
Status: Full and part-time positions available
Hours: Facility is open M-F 7:30-6:30, Sat 8:00-3:00
Compensation: $14-$16 an hour (CDL Class A & B $16-$20 an hour)

Compensation: $14.00 - $20.00 per hour
