Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities / KPI’s
1. Environmental Compliance Management

1.1. Coordinate the implementation of environmental management requirements across rail and port operations.

1.2. Conduct routine inspections of rail corridor operations, workshops, fuel storage facilities, laydown yards, waste storage areas, port stockpile areas, and loading and unloading facilities

1.3. Track and close environmental corrective actions.

2. Environmental Monitoring Programs

2.1. Coordinate environmental monitoring activities, including surface water, groundwater, air quality, dust, noise, and vibration monitoring:

2.2. Coordinate marine water quality monitoring (port) and meteorological monitoring, including weather and rainfall data reporting

2.3. Ensure monitoring programs comply with approved procedures.

2.4. Review monitoring results and identify environmental risks.

2.5. Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and operational excellence within the sewer maintenance crew.

3. Waste Management Oversight

3.1. Monitor waste management activities within rail and port areas.

3.2. Ensure proper segregation, storage, transportation, recycling, and disposal of waste streams, including general waste, scrap metal, used oil, hazardous waste, e-waste, chemical waste, waste batteries, and contaminated

materials

3.3. Verify contractor compliance with waste management procedures.

4. Spill Prevention and Environmental Incident Management

4.1. Lead environmental emergency response during hydrocarbon spills, chemical releases, wastewater discharges, marine pollution incidents, and rail derailment–related environmental events

4.2. Coordinate containment, mitigation, and reporting of environmental incidents to ensure timely response and

regulatory compliance

4.3. Conduct environmental incident investigations.

4.4. Develop corrective and preventive actions.

5. Biodiversity and Conservation Management

5.1. Support implementation of Biodiversity Management Plans.

5.2. Monitor sensitive habitats along rail corridors and port facilities.

5.3. Coordinate rehabilitation and restoration activities.

5.4. Support marine wildlife monitoring programs (LAFA)


Qualifications / Experience / Technical Knowledge

• Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering, Environmental Science, Nature Resource

Management, Biology, Ecology, Chemistry, and Environmental Management.

• Experience: At least 3 years of practical experience in environmental management

• Certifications: ISO 14001:2015, Incident Investigation, Hazard Waste Management, First Aid/CPR

• Technical Skills:

o Environmental compliance and permitting.

o Environmental monitoring programs.

o Waste management systems.

o Spill response and incident investigation.

o Biodiversity management.

o Environmental auditing.

o ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems.

o Environmental data analysis and reporting.

Health and Safety

1.1. Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety regulations, standards, and procedures.

1.2. Participate in health, safety and environment training programs to understand potential hazards, safety procedures, and emergency protocols.

1.3. Report any health, safety and environmental concerns, incidents, or near misses promptly to the designated

supervisor or safety officer.

1.4. Assist in identifying workplace hazards and participate in risk assessments to minimize risks to personal health and safety.

1.5. Wear appropriate PPE as required for specific tasks or environments and ensure that it is maintained and used correctly.

1.6. Be familiar with emergency response procedures, including evacuation routes, assembly points, and first aid

protocols.

1.7. Follow established safe work practices and procedures to prevent accidents, injuries, or illnesses.

1.8. Operate machinery, tools, and equipment safely, following manufacturer's instructions and the AML safety

guidelines.

1.9. Maintain a clean and orderly workspace to reduce hazards and prevent accidents.

1.9.1. Promote a culture of health and safety awareness among coworkers by encouraging safe behaviors and

reporting unsafe conditions.

1.9.2. Participate in health and safety committees or meetings as required, providing input and suggestions for

improving workplace safety.

1.9.3. Keep accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, and training activities as required by company policy

and regulations.

1.1. Oversee and monitor the environmental performance of your department's functions, ensuring high levels of

awareness and compliance with company environmental policies and relevant environmental laws.

1.2. Regularly review environmental performance metrics and indicators to track progress, identify trends, and address areas for improvement.

1.3. Ensure all environmental incidents are reported promptly and investigated thoroughly in line with company policies and legal requirements.

1.4. Uphold a culture of environmental responsibility and compliance within the organization by setting clear

expectations for incident reporting and response at all levels.

1.5. Collaborate with the Environment team to identify opportunities for environmental improvement and develop strategic programs to enhance sustainability practices.
