Duties and Responsibilities / KPI’s
1. Laboratory Operations Supervision
1.1. Supervise and coordinate daily laboratory activities, including sample receipt, preparation, storage, and dispatch.
1.2. Allocate tasks, set priorities, and ensure adequate staffing and shift coverage.
1.3. Coach, mentor, and assess Laboratory Operators to ensure competency and compliance with procedures.
1.4. Ensure laboratory workflows meet required turnaround times and production demands.
2. Sample Integrity, Traceability & Governance
21. Ensure strict adherence to sample identification, labelling, barcoding, and chain-of-custody requirements.
2.2. Investigate and resolve sample non-conformances or discrepancies.
3. Stakeholder Guidance & Process Alignment
3.1. Act as the laboratory quality authority for operations, metallurgy, mining, and logistics departments.
3.2. Define and communicate sampling and handling requirements to upstream and downstream stakeholders.
3.3. Support operational teams in understanding how deviations in sampling or handling affect product quality and metallurgical accounting.
3.4. Participate in plant improvement initiatives, audits, and root cause investigations related to quality.
4. Quality Control & Compliance
4.1. Implement, monitor, and continuously improve laboratory QA/QC systems.
4.2. Ensure correct application of duplicates, blanks, standards, and checks.
4.3. Review preparation methods to ensure representativity and repeatability.
4.4. Validate laboratory data before being released to metallurgical accounting and reporting teams.
5. Equipment, Facilities & Resource Management
5.1. Oversee the operation, availability, and maintenance of laboratory equipment, including crushers, pulverisers, mills,
splitters, drying ovens, filtration units, and balances.
5.2. Ensure calibration, verification, and preventative maintenance schedules are followed.
5.3. Coordinate with maintenance teams for repairs and upgrades.
5.4. Ensure laboratory facilities meet housekeeping, safety, and contamination-control standards.
6. Reporting, Documentation & Continuous Improvement
6.1. Maintain accurate laboratory records, procedures, and work instructions.
6.2. Compile laboratory performance, quality, and compliance reports.
6.3. Identify opportunities for process optimisation, automation, and efficiency improvements.
6.4. Support external and internal audits related to quality and laboratory operations.
7. Safety and Environmental Compliance
7.1. Enforce compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations and laboratory SOPs.
7.2. Conduct task risk assessments and ensure appropriate PPE usage.
7.3. Lead incident investigations, near-miss reporting, and corrective actions.
7.4. Promote a strong safety and quality culture within the laboratory team.
8. Communication & Teamwork
8.1. Work closely with plant operators, metallurgical quality controls personnel, and laboratory staff.
8.2. Communication sampling schedules, results, and any issues encountered during operations.
8.3. Participate in safety and Operational training sessions.
Qualifications / Experience / Knowledge
• High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in mineral processing, metallurgy, or a related field is a plus.
• Experience in ore sampling/sample preparation, mineral processing, or a similar industrial environment is preferred.
• Familiarity with sampling techniques, laboratory procedures, and quality control standards.
• Ability to operate and maintain mechanical sampling equipment.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow standard operating procedures.
• Physically fit and capable of working in harsh environments (e.g., exposure to dust, heat, noise, and heavy
machinery) and manually handling sampling equipment (lifting, moving).
• Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and overtime as needed.

supervisor or safety officer.

1.5. Wear appropriate PPE as required for specific tasks or environments and ensure that it is maintained and used

1.6. Be familiar with emergency response procedures, including evacuation routes, assembly points, and first aid
protocols.
1.7. Follow established safe work practices and procedures to prevent accidents, injuries, or illnesses.
1.8. Operate machinery, tools, and equipment safely, following the manufacturer's instructions and the AML safety
guidelines.
1.9. Maintain a clean and orderly workspace to reduce hazards and prevent accidents.

reporting unsafe conditions.
1.9.2. Participate in health and safety committees or meetings as required, providing input and suggestions for

1.1. Oversee and monitor the environmental performance of your department's functions, ensuring high levels of
awareness and compliance with company environmental policies and relevant environmental laws.
1.2. Regularly review environmental performance metrics and indicators to track progress, identify trends, and address areas for improvement.
1.3. Ensure all environmental incidents are reported promptly and investigated thoroughly in line with company policies and legal requirements.
1.4. Uphold a culture of environmental responsibility and compliance within the organisation by setting clear
expectations for incident reporting and response at all levels.
1.5. Collaborate with the Environment team to identify opportunities for environmental improvement and develop
strategic programs to enhance sustainability practices.
