Duties and Responsibilities / KPI’s
1. Excavation and Loading
1.1. Operate the excavator to excavate and load materials into haul trucks, stockpiles, or other designated areas
safely and efficiently.
1.2. Ensure materials are loaded accurately to avoid spillage or overloading.
2. Compliance
2.1. Adhere to site safety policies, procedures, and protocols during all operations.
2.2. Ensure safe operation in potentially hazardous areas such as slopes, narrow spaces, or near other equipment.
2.3. Participate in safety briefings, toolbox talks, and risk assessments.
3. Equipment Inspection and Maintenance
3.1. Conduct daily pre-start and post-operation checks to identify and address any equipment issues.
3.2. Maintain the excavator in good working condition by following preventive maintenance schedules.
3.3. Report mechanical or operational faults immediately to the maintenance team or supervisor.
4. Operational Efficiency
4.1. Optimize cycle times to achieve maximum production rates while minimizing wear and tear on the equipment.
4.2. Avoid unnecessary idling to conserve fuel and reduce emissions.
5. Communication and Coordination
5.1. Coordinate with other operators, supervisors, and site personnel to maintain smooth operations.
5.2. Use communication systems (e.g., two-way radios) effectively to relay information about job status, hazards, or assistance needs.
6. Record Keeping
6.1. Maintain accurate records of daily tasks, fuel usage, and equipment hours for reporting purposes.
6.2. Document incidents, near misses, or unusual events.
Qualifications / Experience / Knowledge
Valid Excavator Operator Certification or License from a recognized training institution.
Minimum of 2–3 years of proven experience operating excavators in a mining or construction environment.
Knowledge of heavy equipment maintenance and basic mechanical troubleshooting.
Familiarity with mining terrain and operational safety protocols, including pre-operational checks and hazard
identification.
Ability to read and interpret technical instructions, load charts, and worksite plans.

Working Conditions
The role involves working in outdoor environments, often under varying weather conditions such as heat, rain, or dust.
Operators are required to spend long hours in heavy equipment, sometimes on rough or uneven terrain.

Shift work, including weekends or nights, may be required depending on operational needs.

1.9. Operate machinery, tools, and equipment safely, following manufacturer's instructions and the AML safety
guidelines.
1.10. Maintain a clean and orderly workspace to reduce hazards and prevent accidents.
1.10.1. Promote a culture of health and safety awareness among coworkers by encouraging safe behaviors and
reporting unsafe conditions.
1.10.2. Participate in health and safety committees or meetings as required, providing input and suggestions for
improving workplace safety.
1.10.3. Keep accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, and training activities as required by company
policy and regulations.
Environment
1.1. Operate with care to minimize environmental impacts, such as preventing unnecessary soil disturbance or spillage into sensitive areas.
