Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities / KPI’s

• Lead his team - Set a good example to team members by demonstrating integrity, commitment, security knowledge, work ethic and self-discipline.

• Be familiar with and understand the ISPS code and how it applies to Buchanan Port.

• Be familiar with and understand the Port Security Plan and its associated SOPs.

• Be familiar with and understand the guard’s KPIs and Scope of Work in the guard contract.

• Have a detailed understanding of the VPSHR.

• Ensure that Port control rooms and patrol teams are operating efficiently, and according to the policies and procedures detailed in the site security plan.

• Ensure that the contracted guards are operating efficiently, in accordance with the VPSHR, and according to the KPIs and SoW detailed in their contract and report any deficiencies to the Supt. For Port.

• Ensure the CCTV system in the port is operational and that the operators are carrying out their duties correctly.

• Ensure that the monthly deployment charts are sent out to the guard company(s).

• Ensure that LNP ERU and PSU officers are operating efficiently, and in accordance with the VPSHR, as detailed in the Port Security Plan and report any deficiencies to the Supt. For Port.

• Understand his duties in any site emergency response plans and ensure his team execute their roles therein rapidly and effectively.

• Ensure all direct reports understand and apply the AML safety rules.

• Escalate all security incidents, threats and vulnerabilities in his AoR in a timely manner.

• Complete all routine daily and weekly reports on time.

• Conduct security audits and risk assessments, applying the ESRM approach, as directed by the Superintendent-Port.

• Delegate authority to his team, but ensure supervision, accountability and review

Asset Management

• Account for and look after all AML serial-numbered equipment in his AoR, ensure that any equipment received by his team is signed for and maintained in good working order, with any faults or losses reported quickly to the superintendent.

• Inspect security systems (CCTV, access control, lighting, fences & gates, guard huts, towers and offices) in his AoR and report any faults to his superintendent.

• Ensure all communications systems are functional, that radio-users have access to spare batteries and that adequate charging facilities are in place. Deport any comms deficiencies to his superintendent immediately.

• Take care of any vehicles issued to him, conduct daily checks, and report any faults immediately.

• Keep all occurrence books, registers, log-books, access control records, contact lists, work files and folders well-organized, up to date, and secure and ensure all digital files are backed up in the Cloud.

• Subject to agreed criteria, set actions and targets, appraise and manage performance, development, coaching and general support of all team members to ensure targets are met and capacities are developed.

• Maintain effective liaison with other AML departments.

• Act for the Superintendent during his annual leave, as directed.

• Cover for other supervisors during annual leave or sick leave, as directed.

• High School Graduate with tertiary Security qualification

•Diploma in Security or equivalent qualification

1.3. Report any health, safety and environmental concerns, incidents, or near misses promptly to the designated supervisor or safety officer.

1.4. Assist in identifying workplace hazards and participate in risk assessments to minimize risks to personal health and safety.

1.5. Wear appropriate PPE as required for specific tasks or environments and ensure that it is maintained and used correctly.

1.6. Be familiar with emergency response procedures, including evacuation routes, assembly points, and first aid protocols.

1.7. Follow established safe work practices and procedures to prevent accidents, injuries, or illnesses.

1.8. Operate machinery, tools, and equipment safely, following manufacturer's instructions and the AML safety guidelines.

1.9. Maintain a clean and orderly workspace to reduce hazards and prevent accidents. Promote a culture of health and safety awareness among coworkers by encouraging safe behaviors and reporting unsafe conditions.

1.9.2. Participate in health and safety committees or meetings as required, providing inputs and suggestions for improving workplace safety.

1.9.3. Keep accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, and training activities as required by company policy and regulations.

1.1. Oversee and monitor the environmental performance of your department's functions, ensuring high levels of awareness and compliance with company environmental policies and relevant environmental laws.

1.2. Regularly review environmental performance metrics and indicators to track progress, identify trends, and address areas for improvement.

1.3. Ensure all environmental incidents are reported promptly and investigated thoroughly in line with company policies and legal requirements.

1.4. Uphold a culture of environmental responsibility and compliance within the organization by setting clear expectations for incident reporting and response at all levels.

1.5. Collaborate with the Environment team to identify opportunities for environmental improvement and develop strategic programs to enhance sustainability practices.
