1. Professional skills and requirements
1.1. Manages regular general medical inpatients, conduct ward rounds, including medical patients on the Critical Care Unit/or high dependency unit, providing back up during accidents/emergencies, and participate in outpatient clinics along with other staff physicians and mid-level clinicians.
1.2. Diagnosis and Treatment: Conducting consultations, diagnosing illnesses, and developing treatment plans for patients with various medical conditions.
1.3. Emergency Care: Providing immediate medical care to patients in emergency situations.
1.4. Preventative Care: Supervising vaccinations/immunizations, conducting consultations (both communicable and non-communicable diseases), and providing health education for patients on preventive measures.
1.5. Specialized Procedures: Performing or assisting with procedures like endoscopy, ultrasonography, and other specialized interventions as needed.
1.6. Training and Mentorship: Training and mentoring junior and mid-level clinical staff, including nurses, physician assistants and other medical professionals.
1.7. Quality Improvement: Monitoring the quality of care, developing and updating clinical protocols, and contributing to the development of strategies for improving patient outcomes.
1.9. Working with other specialists, both within the facility and in other locations, to ensure patients receive the best possible care.
1.9. Data Collection and Analysis: Contributing to the collection and analysis of hospital data and participating in operational research.
1.10. Resource Management: Contributing to the management of medicines, medical supplies, and ensuring the efficient use of resources.
1.11. Community Outreach: Participating in integrated medical outreach programs to provide healthcare services in affected catchment communities.
1.12. Maintain the highest regard for patient dignity, privacy/confidentiality, and autonomy, as well as observe the precepts of the Patients’ Rights Charter.
1.13. Plan and execute disease/illness prevention and health promotion programs as appropriate for occupational health & safety.
1.14. Make referrals of patients to other health facilities and/or tertiary center, where this is indicated by the clinical needs of the patients in consultation with the Medical Director and/or CMO.
1.15. Liaise closely with colleagues in other clinical disciplines in various medical institutions and maintain a cordial and professional working relationship.
1.16. Order and analyze relevant tests like X-rays, Ultrasonograms, CT scans, MRIs, etc.
1.17. Consult with and assist other medical doctors and clinical staff as required.
1.18. Refer patients to other specialists and other professionals.
1.19. Proven work experience as an Internist.

5.1. Actively participate in and contribute to continuous quality improvement and risk management activities.
5.2. Contribute to the development, review and maintenance of appropriate policies, procedures, and guideline documentation, in conjunction with the wider team.
5.3. Comply with quality focused nursing protocols to ensure care standards are articulated, supported, achieved, documented, and audited.
5.4. Recognize and manage risks to provide care that best meets the needs and interests of our patients.
5.5. Maintain awareness of emerging patient needs, new procedures and technologies and promote solutions to safely care for patients.
5.6. Adhere to all Infection Prevention & Control (IPC) standards/protocols of the Ministry of Health (MOH).
6. Privacy and Confidentiality
6.1. Adhere to the medical-nursing ethics on patient privacy and health information confidentiality in regard to the non-disclosure of information.
6.2. Maintain strict confidentiality with respect to our business, operations, employees, and patients.
6.3. Note: In the course of your employment, you may have access to or hear information concerning the medical-surgical or personal affairs of patients, staff and / or other health service business. Such records and information are strictly confidential and, unless acting on the instruction of an authorized manager, such information must not be divulged or discussed except in the performance of normal duty. In addition, records must never be left in such a manner that unauthorized persons can obtain access to them and must be kept in safe custody when no longer required.
6.4. Policies/Legislation: All AML and hospital policies and procedures form an integral part of an employment contract and may be subject to update and revision, from time to time, in consultation with union representatives as appropriate. You are required to comply with all hospital policies, procedures (e.g. alcohol policy, HSE policy, etc.) and the hospital’s ethical codes of practice.
