Job Description

Mechanical Engineering Support

  1. Provide technical engineering support for all mechanical systems across Port MPQ equipment, including conveyors, stackers, reclaimers, ship loaders, and auxiliary infrastructure.
  2. Review and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and OEM manuals to ensure correct application in maintenance and operations.
  3. Support maintenance teams in resolving complex mechanical issues and improving execution quality.
  4. Ensure compliance with engineering standards, design specifications, and operational requirements.

Equipment Reliability & Performance Improvement

  1. Monitor equipment performance and analyze mechanical reliability data to identify trends and potential failure risks.
  2. Develop and implement strategies to improve equipment availability, reliability, and lifecycle performance.
  3. Identify recurring failure modes and implement engineering solutions to eliminate or reduce them.
  4. Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at optimizing system performance and efficiency.

Root Cause Analysis & Problem Solving

  1. Lead or participate in root cause analysis (RCA) of major equipment failures and chronic issues.
  2. Utilize structured methodologies (e.g., RCA, FMEA) to identify root causes and implement corrective and preventive actions.

    1. Document and communicate findings, recommendations, and lessons learned to relevant stakeholders.
    2. Ensure effective follow-up and closure of identified issues.

    Maintenance Strategy & Planning Support

    1. Support development and optimization of preventive and predictive maintenance strategies.
    2. Define maintenance task lists, frequencies, and procedures aligned with equipment criticality.
    3. Review maintenance execution data to improve planning, scheduling, and execution efficiency.
    4. Collaborate with planners to optimize maintenance schedules and reduce downtime.

    Asset Management & Lifecycle Optimization

    1. Support asset management initiatives to ensure long-term sustainability and performance of mechanical systems.
    2. Evaluate equipment condition and recommend repair, refurbishment, or replacement strategies.
    3. Participate in lifecycle costing and long-term maintenance planning.
    4. Ensure effective asset documentation and system history tracking.

    Project & Modification Support

    1. Participate in engineering projects involving modification, upgrade, or installation of mechanical systems.
    2. Review designs, scope of work, and technical specifications to ensure feasibility and compliance.
    3. Support commissioning and handover of new or upgraded equipment.
    4. Ensure all modifications are properly documented and integrated into existing systems.

    Vendor & Contractor Management

    1. Liaise with OEMs, vendors, and contractors for technical support, spare parts, and equipment servicing.
    2. Evaluate vendor proposals and technical solutions.
    3. Monitor contractor work to ensure compliance with technical and quality standards.
    4. Ensure all external service providers meet safety and operational requirements.

      Documentation & Compliance

      1. Maintain and update mechanical engineering documentation including drawings, procedures, and equipment records.
      2. Ensure all engineering activities comply with company standards, legislative requirements, and industry best practices.
      3. Support audits, inspections, and compliance reviews.
      4. Ensure accurate recording of maintenance and engineering data in the maintenance management system (e.g., SAP).

      Health, Safety & Risk Management

      1. Ensure all engineering and maintenance activities comply with company HSE policies and procedures.
      2. Participate in hazard identification, risk assessments, and mitigation planning.
      3. Identify mechanical risks and implement engineering controls to eliminate or reduce hazards.
      4. Promote a strong safety culture and ensure zero harm objectives are achieved.
      5. Training & Technical Development
        1. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to maintenance personnel and junior engineers.
        2. Support development of technical training materials and procedures.
        3. Facilitate knowledge transfer to ensure sustainable maintenance and operational capabilities.
        4. Promote continuous skills development within the maintenance and engineering teams

          Continuous Improvement & Operational Excellence

          1. Identify opportunities to improve maintenance processes, engineering practices, and equipment performance.
          2. Drive initiatives to reduce downtime, improve MTBF, and optimize MTTR.
          3. Support implementation of reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) and best practices.
          4. Capture lessons learned and implement improvements across port operations.

          Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

          1. Improvement in equipment reliability and availability
          2. Reduction in repeat mechanical failures
          3. Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF)
          4. Mean Time to Repair (MTTR)
          5. Maintenance strategy effectiveness
