Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities / KPI’s

  • Prepare and update basic engineering drawings using CAD software in accordance with project standards and schedules. KPI: Drawings completed accurately and issued within agreed timeframes, with minimal rework required.
  • Maintain and update engineering spreadsheets, including bills of quantities, cost build‑ups, and calculation sheets. KPI: Data accuracy maintained and submissions delivered on time as per task requirements.
  • Collect, process, and organize technical data for reports, presentations, and internal reviews. KPI: Technical information compiled clearly and consistently to support decision‑making.
  • Assist with site supervision activities to monitor construction progress, workmanship quality, and compliance with drawings and safety requirements. KPI: Site observations and issues reported promptly and accurately to supervising engineers.
  • Support contract administration activities by tracking technical documentation, drawings, and contractor submissions. KPI: Assigned documentation tracked and filed correctly with no overdue items under responsibility.
  • Review and analyze technical documentation related to rail and port expansion projects under guidance. KPI: Technical reviews completed within agreed timelines and feedback provided clearly.
  • Assist in preparing and delivering basic technical presentations and follow‑up reports for internal stakeholders. KPI: Presentations and reports delivered as scheduled and aligned with project requirements.

Qualifications / Experience / Technical Knowledge

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Foundational understanding of basic project management principles, including task planning, scheduling awareness, and document control (advantageous).
  • Entry-level role suitable for graduates or candidates with limited professional experience.
  • Proficiency or foundational knowledge in the following software tools:
    • AutoCAD and Civil 3D (engineering drawings)
    • Microsoft Excel (spreadsheets, calculations)
    • Microsoft Word (technical documents) o Microsoft PowerPoint (presentations)
    • Microsoft Outlook and Teams (communication and coordination)

Working Conditions

  • Based in Buchanan, primarily performing office-based technical support activities.
  • Regular site visits are required, on average 3–4 times per week, depending on project needs.
  • Occasional travel along the railway mainlines and to Tokadeh/Yekepa.
  • Exposure to operational railway, port, and construction environments during site activities.

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety regulations, standards, and procedures.
  • Participate in health, safety and environment training programs to understand potential hazards, safety procedures, and emergency protocols.
  • Report any health, safety and environmental concerns, incidents, or near misses promptly to the designated supervisor or safety officer.
  • Assist in identifying workplace hazards and participate in risk assessments to minimize risks to personal health and safety.
  • Wear appropriate PPE as required for specific tasks or environments and ensure that it is maintained and used correctly.
  • Be familiar with emergency response procedures, including evacuation routes, assembly points, and first aid protocols.
  • Follow established safe work practices and procedures to prevent accidents, injuries, or illnesses.
  • Operate machinery, tools, and equipment safely, following manufacturer's instructions and the AML safety guidelines.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly workspace to reduce hazards and prevent accidents.
    • Promote a culture of health and safety awareness among coworkers by encouraging safe behaviors and reporting unsafe conditions.
    • Participate in health and safety committees or meetings as required, providing input and suggestions for improving workplace safety.
    • Keep accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, and training activities as required by company policy and regulations.

Environment

  • Oversee and monitor the environmental performance of your department's functions, ensuring high levels of awareness and compliance with company environmental policies and relevant environmental laws.
  • Regularly review environmental performance metrics and indicators to track progress, identify trends, and address areas for improvement.
  • Ensure all environmental incidents are reported promptly and investigated thoroughly in line with company policies and legal requirements.
  • Uphold a culture of environmental responsibility and compliance within the organization by setting clear expectations for incident reporting and response at all levels.
  • Collaborate with the Environment team to identify opportunities for environmental improvement and develop strategic programs to enhance sustainability practices.
