We are seeking a motivated and professional LPN or RN to join our surgical team as a Pre-Operative Nurse. This role focuses exclusively on preparing patients for their surgical procedures, ensuring a safe, comfortable, and well-informed experience prior to surgery.

The Pre-Op Nurse works collaboratively with the surgical team and is accountable for their practice according to the standards set by the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA) or the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA).

Key Responsibilities

  • Admit and prepare patients for their surgical procedure
  • Conduct pre-operative assessments, including vital signs and medical history review
  • Educate patients and families on preoperative instructions and expectations
  • Administer medications and pre-op treatments as prescribed
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthetists, and other team members to ensure safe and efficient pre-op care
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of assessments and care provided
  • Ensure a clean and safe environment for patients

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a healthcare team
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Critical thinking and clinical judgment within scope of practice
  • Professional, flexible, and adaptable to workload needs
  • Ability to educate patients and families clearly and compassionately

Experience

  • Previous acute care experience preferred
  • Experience with pre-operative patient care is an asset but not required

Education & Certification

  • LPN eligible for registration with CLPNA or RN eligible for registration with CARNA
  • Current Basic Life Support – Health Care Provider (BLS-HCP) certification
