Job Description

Position Title: Licensed Practical Nurse Position Code: LPN-______

Reports to: Clinic Manager/Nursing Director Exempt Status: ☐ Yes ☒ No

Position Purpose:

Key Responsibilities

  • Works under the direction of the provider and the Arizona State Nurse Practice Act to provide. professional nursing care for clinic patients in compliance with nursing standards and regulations.
  • Triage patients by phone or in person, receiving and implementing telephone physician orders, maintaining clinical communication in dynamic environment.
  • Responsible for maintaining all applicable KHI Policies and Procedures.
  • Escorts patient to exam room and prepares patient for exam including vital signs, history, and reason for seeking care.
  • Cross trains in data entry, balancing of accounts, charges fees and collect payments due.
  • Schedules/confirms appointments.
  • Maintains and facilitates communication between patients, family, and clinical staff.
  • Reports as necessary to Public Health at direction of provider.
  • Maintains work area including exam rooms, supplies, medication, and immunizations.
  • Performs CLIA waived lab tests and obtains specimens.
  • Performs proficiency testing and runs controls for waived tests.
  • May perform venipuncture.
  • Participates in division meetings.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Graduate of a practical or vocational nursing program
  • High school graduate or equivalent.

Licensure Current, valid Arizona LPN license or compact state LPN/LVN license

Certification: BLS through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Ability to communicate effectively with others
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks
  • Ability to maintain attention to detail
  • Knowledge of and ability to use computer hardware and software applications
  • Ability to recognize and respond appropriately to urgent/emergent situations per protocol
  • Knowledge of and ability to implement direct care, newborn through geriatric
  • Knowledge of and ability to use basic medical terminology

Preferences

Experience: One to two years’ experience as a Licensed Practical Nurse in a clinical outpatient setting

  • Other potential hazard(s): possible exposure to chemical, biological and radioactive substances; possible exposure to hostile individuals.

Work Requirements

  • Must be able to distinguish appropriate colors
  • Capable of consistently reaching and/or working above and below shoulder level, lifting up to 50 pounds
  • Capable of walking or being on feet 90% of time per day with frequent bending, squatting, kneeling, standing; sitting at desk 10% of the time per day
  • Communicating using telephone
