Mazzetti's Technology Practice envisions and designs forward-thinking, sustainable technology solutions tailored to the healthcare sector. This Practice encompasses Medical Equipment Planning, IT and Low Voltage Systems, and their integration with our Engineering Practice. As a Low Voltage Systems Designer at Mazzetti, you will play a hands-on role in the design, documentation, and execution of technology infrastructure for healthcare projects. Your primary focus will be on developing innovative, sustainable low voltage and IT systems solutions that directly impact healthcare delivery. You will work closely with healthcare users, IT/Biomedical teams, contractors, and other design professionals to ensure that every project reflects technical excellence and Mazzetti’s commitment to engineering a healthier planet.

Your Tasks Will Involve

Design and Documentation:

• Create detailed designs, specifications, and documentation for low voltage and communication systems in healthcare settings.
• Develop and refine technical drawings and system layouts using software tools.

Technical Analysis and Solutions Development:

• Perform hands-on assessments of healthcare IT and communication systems requirements.
• Conduct site surveys on construction sites to identify and address technical issues.
• Review and respond to submittals and RFIs from contractors to ensure alignment with design intent.

Collaboration and Integration:

• Communicate clearly and effectively with contractors and vendors to support coordination and problem-solving.
• Collaborate directly with internal design teams to ensure seamless system integration into larger project frameworks.
• Work with regulatory and compliance teams to align designs with industry standards.

Client and Stakeholder Engagement:

• Partner with healthcare users and IT/Biomedical teams to understand their operational needs and translate them into actionable design solutions.
• Contribute to workshops, planning sessions, and technical discussions to deliver impactful, user-focused solutions.

Cost and Efficiency Improvements:

• Provide detailed cost estimates and budgets, ensuring that solutions align with client goals and project constraints.
• Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, constructability, and sustainability in systems design.

Work Location

This is a hybrid position based in the San Francisco Bay Area, California. Most of the work can be done remotely from home in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Travel Requirements: Approximately 25% travel is expected, mainly for project site visits within California. Occasional travel to other locations along the West Coast may be required.

Requirements

Expertise And Abilities You Will Contribute

• Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, or at least 7 years of equivalent experience without a degree, in the design and implementation of low voltage and communication systems.
• At least 3 years of experience in design of hospitals.
• Demonstrated experience with California-based healthcare projects, including familiarity with state-specific codes and requirements monitored by HCAI.
• Experience designing and providing construction quality control of all the following systems as a member of the A/E design team on hospital projects: access control, video surveillance, structured cabling, overhead paging, nurse call, A/V, and television signal distribution.
• A solid understanding of the unique challenges and requirements of healthcare IT and communication systems, including compliance with healthcare-specific regulations and standards.
• Experience working with BIM teams to coordinate designs in Revit to produce construction documents.
• Experience developing internal project resource planning, reviewing project financials, and collaborating with accounting on invoices and revenue reports.
• Proficiency in Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office Suite (including Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint).
• A hands-on approach to problem-solving and solution implementation.
• Strong technical documentation and drafting skills.
• Strong team communication abilities and must be comfortable speaking as a participant in design meetings.
• Ability to travel domestically up to 25%.

Preferred:

• RCDD certification.
• Experience designing and providing construction quality control of any of the following systems as a member of the A/E design team on hospital projects: 802.11 wireless, data network, VoIP, IT end user device placement, synchronized clocks, infant abduction, and/or two-way radio.
• Experience leading user meetings to define the requirements for each technology system and placement of applicable devices within a facility.
• Proficiency in software for project management, cost estimating, and document management.

Compensation: The typical salary range for a Low Voltage Systems Designer in the San Francisco Bay Area, CA is $110,000 - $130,000. We are committed to equitable pay and will evaluate final compensation based on relevant experience and skills in alignment with internal equity and market data.
