Job Description

$22.12 - $23.32 PER HOUR

GENERAL PURPOSE:

The purpose of this position is to research, track, and build legally prosecutable cases against identified bad actors on Harmons’ property, and to facilitate Harmons’ efforts to fortify the business against all types of loss. Loss Prevention Associates will use established procedures and available technology and tools to protect Harmons, and its associates and customers. They will work with and build relationships of trust with Harmons’ associates, managers, directors, and with local law enforcement agencies and officers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supports assigned stores’ leadership in detecting and preventing loss and building associates’ and management’s confidence and participation in Harmons’ Loss Prevention program
  • Uses modern security programs including surveillance systems, incident reporting applications, and governmental crime reporting tools to investigate and record terminable and criminal offenses against Harmons
  • Uses professional, educated judgement to detect crime and ensure correct identification of suspected bad actors, protecting Harmons against loss derived from incorrect accusations
  • Is familiar with and able to effectively navigate internal recordkeeping applications, cloud-based file storage, company email, and internal auditing tools
  • Research and save videographic evidence related to theft and other potential losses at assigned locations
  • Works closely with law enforcement agencies to facilitate their apprehension of identified bad actors
  • Help to ensure stores’ compliance with all Safety, Loss Prevention, and PCI Compliance Standard Operating Procedures by educating associates and managers, participating in in-store safety meetings and trainings, and conducting annual safety audits
  • Inspect stores and departments for signs of potential loss
  • Travels to and between all Harmons locations as scheduled by department manager or required by emerging events
  • Works varying shifts and on-call assignments to provide Loss Prevention coverage during all operating hours including weekdays, weeknights, weekends, and holidays
  • Communicates openly and frequently with the team members, Loss Prevention Manager, Director of Risk Management, and stores’ leadership teams
  • Follows established departmental and store policies and procedures
  • Completes assigned tasks efficiently and in a timely manner
  • Sets a professional and positive example to others
  • Assists as needed to ensure the success of the company as a whole

MARGINAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Desired knowledge, skills, and abilities:

A high school diploma or GED required; or any combination of education, experience, and training which provides the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Working knowledge of law enforcement and security procedures and techniques, applicable laws, etc.
  • Working knowledge of Loss Prevention related tools and equipment approved by Harmons
  • Ability to interpret policies and procedures
  • Ability to remain calm and practice deescalation tactics in varying and dynamic situations
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills
  • Must possess solid communication skills, including verbal and listening skills in order to effectively and efficiently communicate with diverse groups of people
  • Must obtain and maintain a valid Utah driver’s license and automobile insurance at or above company proscribed minimums
  • Ability to appropriately and professionally handle conflict
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Must possess the ability to accept constructive review and be accountable for one’s own success as well as the success of your team

Work is generally performed in a safe and comfortable store environment or parking lot with the possibility of frequent exposure to cold, hot, slippery, and wet conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to grasp, push, pull, carry, stoop, twist, crouch, and reach; perform tasks requiring repetitive motion, eye, hand, and foot coordination; hear and respond to inquiries. Also requires standing, walking, and bending throughout the entire workday and the ability to maneuver heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds from location to location.
