Job Description

A vacancy for a Long-term Substitute Itinerant Hearing Support Teacher position exists within the Division of Student Services of the Chester County Intermediate Unit. This position will include duties associated with serving children birth to three, preschool, and school age students through age 21 who are deaf or hard of hearing. This position is temporary and is slated to begin in January 2026, and will extend through April 2026. An extension is possible, but is not guaranteed.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To provide hearing support to deaf/hearing impaired students who are referred to the program by districts and pre-school special education and birth to three programs.
  • Planning and/or adoption of the educational program to enable deaf and hearing impaired students to benefit from the educational experience.
  • Complete required activities including: assess and teach deaf and hearing impaired students; develop individual education programs; support technology and use of accommodations within the school, teach special education students and to educate special education students who are deaf or hard of hearing regarding the impact their hearing loss may have on their education, consult with support the students' special and general education teachers to help them implement effective strategies and accommodations for students who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Qualifications:

  • Valid PA Certification as Teacher of Deaf/Hearing Impaired required
  • Master's degree preferred
  • Dual certification - Deaf & Hard of Hearing and Special Education certification preferred
  • PA Criminal History clearance, Child Abuse clearance and FBI Fingerprint clearance (dated within the year), clearance as an MA provider by the Commonwealth of PA and federal government (conducted by CCIU upon hire)

Salary 2026-27 School Year:

  • $62,155 to $89,730 - Instructional I Certification
  • $64,834 to $93,324 - Instructional II Certification
  • $69,353 to $101,911 - Master's Degree
  • $72,740 to $105,924 - Master's +15
  • $74,415 to $107,845 - Masters + 30

About Chester County Intermediate Unit

Created in 1971 by the Pennsylvania General Assembly, the Chester County Intermediate Unit is a regional educational service agency that exists to provide quality, cost-effective services to the community and its residents. The Chester County Intermediate Unit administers instructional, enrichment and administrative programs and services to Chester County’s 12 public school districts, and to over 45 private and parochial schools in the county. These programs include instructional, remedial and enrichment services for regular and special education students and career and technical education programs for secondary and post-secondary students. The CCIU provides direct instruction to over 5,000 students a year and support services to an additional 30,000 students a year.

In addition, the IU supports teachers, school administrators, school directors and school districts through a multitude of services, including, but not limited to: business and administrative services, communications services, technology services and human resources. The diversity of CCIU programs enables IU staff to interact with school district personnel at all levels and to maintain a cohesive educational network throughout Chester County.
