Job Title: High School Teacher

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Teach, direct and lead assigned students in conformity with the laws of the state and the policies of the Board of Education and work with students on continued development of skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to make effective college and career choices by performing the following duties.

PROFESSIONAL EXPECTATIONS

1. Report to work regularly and on time, prepared to perform appropriately assigned duties throughout the day, in service to students, staff, and the community.
2. Prepare for and perform all assigned duties required by one's job description in a positive and collaborative manner.
3. Follow justifiable directives issued by the established chain of authority with a learning-oriented attitude and seek support when needed.
4. Identify, report, and/or if possible control unsafe conditions or safety hazards in order to maintain safe and secure working and learning environments.
5. Demonstrate professional respect and integrity when interacting with students, parents, staff, community members and other stakeholders. This includes and is not limited to verbal, nonverbal, personal and electronic interactions.
6. Comply with federal laws, state statutes, Board policies, and related administrative guidelines that prohibit coercive, harassing, threatening, retaliating, bullying or discriminating conduct.
7. Communicate in a truthful, timely, compassionate, and empathetic manner about any matter of interest to the District following the appropriate chain of authority.
8. Manage District property and assets in an ethical and responsible manner in accordance with federal laws, state statutes, Board policies, and related administrative guidelines.
9. Maintain confidentiality of information as required under federal laws, state statutes, Board policies, and related administrative guidelines.
10. Report actions, through the appropriate chain of authority that may represent violations of federal laws, state statutes, Board policies, and related administrative guidelines.
11. Refrain from unethical activity that may reasonably interfere with the legitimate operational interests and goals of the District.
12. Comply with all other federal laws, state statutes, Board policies, and related administrative guidelines.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Teach the graded course of study in assigned subject area in the designated location and time.
2. Write a graded course of study for courses.
3. Participate in curriculum development and other developmental programs.
4. Work with counselor to assist students and families with college and career options and selections.
5. Participate in establishing standards for students' academic and social growth, utilize assessment techniques and maintain appropriate records.
6. Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media consistent with classroom limitations and capability and maturity of the students.
7. Develop lesson plans and instructional material and provide individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
8. Complete homeroom duties such as recording and reporting attendance to appropriate office, disseminating information from office concerning students and collecting and recording money for various activities.
9. Communicate with parents by reporting student progress and interpreting the school program.
10. Make provision for being available to students and parents for education related purposes when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
11. Participate in district and faculty committees and share in sponsoring of student activities.
12. Collaborate with other teachers to identify and resolve students' health, attitude and learning problems.
13. Select and requisition books and instructional aids and maintain required inventory records.
14. Administer group standardized tests and competency tests in accordance with district and state testing requirements.
15. Establish and maintain an appropriate discipline plan for the classroom and assist in maintaining discipline within the school environment in accordance with district discipline policies.
16. Plan and coordinate the work of classroom aides and teacher assistants.
17. Provide a wide range of experiences related to understanding of subject.
18. Establish rapport and consistent behavior expectations with students.
19. Prepare substitute teachers' folder to ensure no lapse in the daily lesson plan in the absence of the regular teacher.
20. Participate in frequent training, curriculum development programs and committees to stay current with teaching methods and practices.
21. Perform other duties as appropriate.

OTHER INFORMATION ASSOCIATED WITH THIS POSITION

1. Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, colleagues and administration.
2. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret testing and survey results, financial reports, and legal documents.
3. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from students, parents, agencies, teachers or members of the school community.
4. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conforms to prescribed style and format.
5. Ability to effectively present information to administration, staff, public groups, and/or Board of Education.
6. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned.
7. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents and community; ability to speak clearly and concisely in written or oral communication.
8. Ability to use computers for classroom instruction and record keeping.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

May directly supervise classroom aides. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and negotiated agreements. Responsibilities include training employees, planning, assigning and directing work.

REPORTS TO:Principal or Assistant Principal STATUS:CertifiedSALARY:Based on training and experience in accordance with the district salary schedule.
