Job Description

ROLE PURPOSE:

As the Sales Manager within the long Rolling department of Metallurgical Services, you will be self-motivated and highly customer focused, able to identify sales opportunities and follow up leads to fulfil a pre-sales / marketing role. Your role will generate enquiries for the Long Rolling Department, including Rolling Mill Equipment, Guides, Spares, Service and Products. You will develop customer relationships which will lead to project prospects in the future.

Being the primary point of contact for your customers, you will ensure a rapid response to quotation requests, establishing relationships with customers to understand their investment rationale and objectives. You will utilise this information to plan and execute the Long Rolling Metallurgical Services activities accordingly, to win profitable orders and secure sustainable growth for Primetals Technologies.

The Sales Manager will be required to drive and own customer orders from enquiry through to delivery, maintaining the direct communication with the customers throughout.

MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Identify, create and drive sales opportunities for maintenance, repair, refurbishments, upgrades, spares and products.
  • Work with the sales team in order to ensure consistent and focused effort is being made in line with the sales strategy.
  • Develop effective client relationships through a systematic communication plan including regular visits.
  • Identify customer stakeholders including key decision makers and customer investment plans.
  • Evaluate enquiries, assess sales opportunities and define the bid strategy.
  • Plan, lead and manage the bid process in compliance with the company regulations
  • As part of the Sales Team, provide customers with budget price estimates, fixed price offers and optimum delivery schedules.
  • Negotiate and win contracts with the support of engineering, site services, commercial and legal services.
  • Collaborate with engineering & site service Team to ensure necessary technical clarifications or engineering activities are carried out on time and to budget.
  • When required, ensure proper handover from sales to project management after order acquisition to mitigate all risks during project execution (possible claims, non-conformance costs, etc.).
  • Liaise with the Centres of Competence to inform about new requirements from the market, clients' needs and response of the competition to those requirements/needs.
  • Liaise with the Supply Chain Management Team to ensure seamless order execution.
  • Liaise with marketing/communications to ensure the production of effective publicity material in the form of press releases, brochures and editorial.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

Essential

  • Mechanical Engineering qualification or equivalent engineering experience in industry.
  • Sales oriented with a good understanding of the metals (e.g Long Rolling / Flat Rolling) or heavy engineering industry.
  • Track record of sales performance and effective customer relationship management
  • Strategic awareness of suitable engineering and manufacturing facilities
  • Good leadership and decision-making skills with attention to detail.
  • Commercial awareness of key legal and contractual issues.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, negotiation and presentation skills.
  • Strong customer focus with understanding of the customers' technical and commercial requirement.
  • Ability to self-manage, motivate and self-motivate, especially under pressure and changing situations.

Desirable

  • Experience of working in various disciplines and roles in the metals industry (including at least one of engineering, proposals, sales and order management) with specific knowledge of Long Rolling.
  • Experience of the sales / bidding process.
  • Previous international travel, understanding sensitivities of different global cultures

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

This role is expected to travel frequently, often at short notice, generally on short term visits. There is also a requirement to work to meet the customer deadlines outside of the core hours as necessary.

The post holder must have current UK Driving License, as well as the right to live and work in the UK and travel internationally without restrictions.
