Please proceed using the link: https://app.traits.com/survey/a56e7669-2ba6-4573-83cd-800831da5362Startec Compression & Process is currently recruiting a Logistics Supervisor to work at our Shepard Shop ( 9423 Shepard Rd SE, Calgary, AB, T2C 4R6) The Logistics Supervisor must possess strong knowledge of logistics within a project-based manufacturing environment, including industrial equipment transportation, packaging and crating, import and export operations, customs documentation, and trade compliance.
The position will work closely with the SCM Manager, Procurement, Production, Project Management, Quality and other stakeholders to coordinate inbound and outbound logistics while supporting the Packaging and Logistics category-management strategy. The Logistics Supervisor is responsible for the safe, compliant and cost-effective execution of transportation and packaging activities, including carrier and service-provider performance, freight-cost visibility, shipment planning and continuous improvement.
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPI):
LOGISTICS OPERATIONS AND EXECUTION (Weighting 45%)
Transportation and Shipping Oversight
- Lead shipping, receiving, transportation, freight-forwarding and packaging activities for Startec Compression & Process.
- Supervise shipping and receiving personnel and coordinate daily workload, priorities, training and performance.
- Plan and coordinate inbound and outbound transportation for vendor-fabricated components, project materials, equipment and completed client packages.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for logistics-related stakeholder inquiries, maintaining professional and consistent communication across all channels.
- Coordinate domestic, cross-border and international shipments of completed client projects, including route planning, carrier selection, permits, customs coordination and delivery scheduling.
- Oversee shipment readiness for loose-shipped equipment and materials, including identification, packaging, preservation, crating, documentation and load securement.
- Oversee the safe and secure loading and unloading of equipment, including the appropriate use of forklifts and material-handling equipment.
- Maintain a safe and organized shipping, receiving and staging environment within the warehouse and yard.
- Coordinate carriers, freight forwarders, customs brokers, packaging suppliers and other logistics service providers.
- Ensure transportation and packaging requirements are identified during project planning and communicated to the appropriate stakeholders.
- Monitor shipments through final delivery and proactively resolve delays, damage, documentation issues and other logistics exceptions.
- Ensure transportation activities comply with applicable safety, regulatory, customs and client requirements.
PACKAGING AND LOGISTICS CATEGORY SUPPORT (Weighting 30%)
Category Management and Supplier Performance
- Support the SCM Manager in implementing the Packaging and Logistics category strategy.
- Maintain visibility of transportation, freight-forwarding, customs, courier, packaging and crating spend.
- Support RFQs, bid evaluations, rate comparisons and commercial reviews for logistics and packaging services.
- Support the implementation and ensure the ongoing use of preferred carriers, freight forwarders, customs brokers and packaging suppliers.
- Monitor supplier performance against established pricing, service levels, delivery commitments, safety requirements and quality expectations.
- Develop and maintain supplier scorecards and logistics KPIs, including on-time delivery, freight-cost variance, damage frequency, claims, expedited freight and customs-compliance performance.
- Identify opportunities to consolidate freight, improve routing, standardize packaging, reduce premium transportation and lower total logistics cost.
- Validate freight and packaging invoices against quotations, rate agreements, purchase orders and services received.
- Provide operational feedback and performance data to support supplier reviews, negotiations and category sourcing decisions.
OPERATIONS, COMPLIANCE AND REPORTING SUPPORT (Weighting 25%)
Administrative Responsibilities
- Ensure shipping, receiving, packaging, customs, quality and transportation documentation is complete, accurate and retained in accordance with company, regulatory and client requirements.
- Maintain shipment schedules, tracking information, freight-cost records and supporting documentation within the applicable ERP and logistics systems.
- Coordinate freight claims, damage investigations and corrective actions with Quality, Procurement, Project Management and service providers.
- Report logistics risks, shipment status, cost variances and service-provider performance to the SCM Manager and relevant project stakeholders.
Strategic Engagement
- Liaise with Procurement, Production, Engineering, Quality and Project Management regarding packaging requirements, transportation constraints, shipment sequencing and logistics recommendations.
- Participate in Continuous Improvement, Lean & 8S activities
- Promote Startec’s Core Values, vision, mission, Code of Ethics, policies, procedures, operating instructions and standards, and ensure adherence within the Logistics team.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in logistics, transportation, shipping and receiving, or supply-chain operations, including at least five years within a manufacturing, fabrication, construction or project-based industrial environment.
- Minimum five years of experience coordinating import and export shipments, including customs documentation and trade-compliance requirements.
- Experience managing carriers, freight forwarders, customs brokers, couriers and industrial packaging or crating suppliers.
- Working knowledge of domestic, cross-border and international transportation practices, including oversized or project cargo.
- Experience supporting logistics RFQs, rate analysis, supplier-performance management and cost-reduction initiatives.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to develop and report logistics costs, service levels and supplier-performance KPIs.
- Familiarity with ERP systems, transportation documentation and shipment-tracking processes.
- Forklift experience/certification.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word and Excel.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently, and collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping.
- Ability to proactively identify logistics challenges, evaluate complex information and develop informed, practical solutions.
