SUMMARY
The International Logistics Specialist manages logistics, customer service, and administrative tasks for materials trading (both domestic and international). This role drives operational efficiency, profitability, and risk mitigation, while providing excellent customer service, and ensuring proactive and clear communication across the necessary functional groups and partners. This role requires high self-motivation, collaboration, attention to detail, and multi-tasking with a high sense of urgency.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Load Scheduling & Coordination
- Coordinate with brokerage suppliers, consumers, and logistics vendors to schedule shipments in alignment with PO terms and conditions.
- Schedule and manage pickup and delivery appointments. Collaborates to maximize utilization and proactively communicates misses and recovery plans with appropriate parties.
- Assign logistics partners by prioritizing cost and balancing transit time, reliability, and service capability.
Rate Management & Invoicing
- Work closely with approved vendors to obtain multiple rates and maintains all quotes in our rate management platform.
- Resolve freight-related discrepancies with vendors and internal teams, including invoice disputes. Communicating outcomes to relevant parties for payment and/or debits where appropriate.
Documentation & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, trade regulations, and ISO standards.
Inventory & Warehouse Coordination
- Oversee and manage inbound and outbound material flows at partner warehouses in close coordination with suppliers, warehouses, and carriers.
- Designate warehouse partner assignment based on inbound forecast, free time, rates, and storage costs. This requires close coordination with partner facilities to understand available capacity and to minimize costs.
Issue Resolution & Claims
- Address logistics issues with urgency, attention to cost, and professionalism.
- Monitor international shipments, addressing customs holds, delays, and cost-related issues with urgency to minimize financial and operational impact.
Stakeholder Engagement & Communication
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external partners (e.g., carriers, brokers, warehouses, customs brokers, commercial, accounting, and finance teams etc).
Other Responsibilities
- Stay informed on freight market trends through regular webinars, seminars, and industry updates.
- Travel up to 15% as needed, using the most resource-efficient methods.
- Consult with the Director of Logistics as needed and perform other duties as assigned.

QualificationsPOSITION QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent (required)
- 5+ years of demonstrated international logistics and international customer service experience (required)
- Multi-modal logistics and commodity experience (required)
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in logistics, supply chain management, or related disciplines (highly preferred).
- Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish, or Mandarin (highly preferred)
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Routinely sits; uses hands to type; reach with hands and arms
- Ability to safely perform site visits and travel as necessary.
