The Logistics Leader oversees all plant logistics and materials management activities to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective operations. This role is responsible for receiving inventory control, material handling, warehousing, and shipping while driving performance in safety, quality, service, productivity, and cost. The position also leads materials flow strategy, budgeting, staffing, and continuous improvement initiatives to optimize supply chain performance and deliver value across the plant.

This position reports to the site Logistics Manager. The position is responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the Materials Handling department. The incumbent must possess a good level of understanding of the functional areas and provide leadership in a team setting. The position will also lead logistics projects to drive materials warehouse efficiencies, modifications or improvements. The person serves as a liaison for and resource to the third-party operations (if applicable) when it relates to raw materials and finishing supplies.

In this role, you will:

Safety

  • Consistently lead first with safety to demonstrate that it is embraced as an immovable value. Develop and maintain safety systems in accordance with K-C standards and lead team to complete safety objectives and ensure a safe and productive work environment. Create and support an environment that removes barriers to success.
  • Develop and implement continuous improvement programs that ensure the safe handling of materials continues to grow and progress.
  • Fully comply with corporate loss management policies as well as government safety and health regulations. Support Corporate Drug and Alcohol policy compliance with their team to deal with issues as they arise.

Product Quality/Housekeeping

  • Maintain systems and procedures in materials in accordance with site quality objectives.
  • Maintain housekeeping programs which meet or exceed department and plant objectives.

Cost/Asset Management

  • Drive supply chain value capture programming within materials warehouse to yield transformational cost savings.
  • Manage materials handling costs (i.e. operating supplies, maintenance, labor, gap closure savings, etc.).
  • Development of team objectives that support Plant and Staff Logistics objectives. Support plant initiatives on Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and People.
  • Provide for the most cost-effective storage, retrieval and issuing of materials in the plant. Support efforts to drive improvements in material flow and storage density.
  • Ensure material inventory accuracy and data integrity through the timely and accurate handling of all inventory transactions for receipt, counting/reconciling, consumption, and production reporting processes
  • Leverage and optimize management system technology (SAP/EWM/WMS) to maximize efficiency.
  • Ensure that appropriate assets and equipment are available and properly maintained.

Human Resources

  • Promote a good employee relations climate through the effective and consistent implementation of plant guidelines and procedures that will result in employees considering their plant to be a fair and equitable place of employment.
  • Provide leadership to ensure the organization attracts and retains the best people and fosters an environment which motivates a diverse team to fully use its capabilities in achieving desired business results.
  • Ability to lead organizational change, build relationships, and make good use of available resources. Ability to confront problems and handle conflicts.

Internal Controls

  • Ensure the effective development and application of internal control systems/procedures, customer service policies and facility standard operating procedures in distribution.

Communication

  • Engage back with Staff Distribution on performance to objectives, network standards and programs, and collaborative improvement opportunities.
  • Communicate fully with supervisors, subordinates and others who have need to know. Be informative without being obtrusive or vexatious. Communicate in a way that is timely, yet prompt; complete, yet concise; candid, yet accurate and clear, yet responsive. Communicate efficiently and effectively with plant leadership

Expectations:

  • Lead the development of objectives and execution plans that optimize Material Flow operations, including driving On-Time/In Full, best in class material storage and handling, and delivery of high inventory accuracy and low damage results.
  • Drive supply chain value capture activities across all aspects of Materials Logistics to eliminate waste, improve storage density, and yield cost savings.
  • Maintain strong, safe working conditions and drive a people-based safety culture consistent with plant and staff objectives.
  • Provide support to logistics personnel ensuring labor resources are utilized effectively, including 3PL provider in this space if applicable
  • Where applicable, build supplier relationships on-site with third-party operations and hold accountable for performance expectations.
  • Develop and implement effective cost management practices and cost improvement programs
  • Foster an environment conducive to favorable employee relations
  • Establish/maintain housekeeping standards in conformance to plant and government regulations
  • Engage across the network as needed to drive people and process capability development

To succeed in this role, you will need the following qualifications:

  • Position typically requires a bachelor’s degree in supply chain, business or relevant discipline and 5+ years of related experience
  • Applies in-depth advanced Logistics knowledge and skills with understanding of external environment factors that may affect successful plant/logistics operation and results
  • Provides expert advice, coaching and counseling in the logistics area and across plant operations; also serves as a knowledge resource for other KC plants in the network
  • Possesses a good understanding of a Plant Operation and the relationship and integration of Logistics within that Operation
  • Demonstration of capability to facilitate projects/focus groups in a team environment while providing team leadership.

Salary Range: 87,260 – 107,780 USDAt Kimberly-Clark, pay is just one aspect of our total rewards package, which also includes a variety of benefits and opportunities to achieve, thrive and grow. Along with base pay, this position offers eligibility for a target bonus and a comprehensive benefits suite, including our 401(k) and Profit Sharing plan. The anticipated base pay range for this role is provided above for a fully qualified hire. Actual pay will depend on several factors, such as location, role, skills, performance, and experience. Please note that the stated pay range applies to US locations only.
