Job Description:

The purpose of this position is to support the mission, vision and values of the Charleston Fire Department. The Logistics Coordinator reports to the Battalion Chief assigned in Logistics. This position is essential with assisting both internal and external customers with resources and equipment.

Examples of Duties

  • Maintains the computerized database and work order system and related records and files.
  • Provide customer service to members of the Charleston Fire Department in regards to all uniform, stations, or other items needed.
  • Create orders and meets directly with the vendors and manufacturers to ensure monthly orders are created and requests are met.
  • Works in the warehouse organizing and stocking materials.
  • Tracks issued equipment and makes determination on the replacement of items.
  • Prepares and documents purchase requests and procurement card purchases consistent with city procurement policy.
  • Inputs work orders and purchasing data into a computer system.
  • Provides general clerical assistance to the division, including answering telephones, responding to inquiries and composing correspondence.
  • Refers complaints of service failures to designated departments or divisions for investigation.
  • Works with City Logistics to ensure necessary preparations are made for large scale events.
  • Supervises and assigns task to the Trades Helper on a daily basis.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications

  • Associate’s Degree (AA/AS) and one year of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid state issued driver’s license.
  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office or similar software.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with inventory management software.

Other Necessary Requirements

  • In the event of major storms or other emergency situations, this position may be subject to 24-hour shifts or any other emergency schedule that is necessary to meet the City’s needs.
  • May require evenings, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.
