Generic Job Summary: This role will primarily support the Americas region with a focus on ground transportation operations and strategy, managing a portfolio of transportation sourcing and cost reduction projects. The position will support Vertiv's growing inbound and outbound transportation needs while delivering significant cost savings through strategic sourcing and contract optimization. This role is expected to work with regional teams as appropriate to share best practices and standardize global processes where applicable, with particular emphasis on transportation operations across Mexico, US, and Canada.

Business Unit Job Summary: This role will primarily support the Americas region with emphasis on Mexico operations, but is expected to work closely with US-based and regional teams as appropriate to share best practices and standardize global transportation processes where applicable. The position will collaborate with procurement, operations, and logistics teams to optimize ground transportation networks and ensure service excellence.

Responsibilities:

  1. Manages extensive ground transportation portfolio across North America, including truckload (TL), less-than-truckload (LTL), and specialized transportation (oversized, heavyweight, flatbed, lowboy, stepdeck, etc.). Coordinates cross-functional teams through carrier selection, RFP/bidding processes, contract negotiations, and implementation phases.
  2. Develops and executes category strategies for ground transportation operations, including long-term planning, carrier selection strategies, and continuous improvement initiatives aligned with business objectives and service level requirements.
  3. Drives cost savings and financial performance through strategic rate negotiations, contract optimization, mode optimization, and total cost of transportation analysis. Demonstrates measurable improvements in cost, transit time, quality, and risk mitigation.
  4. Directs cross-functional sourcing initiatives using freight spend analysis, market research, and cost modeling to identify high-value opportunities that deliver innovative transportation solutions, operational efficiencies, and sustainable value to the business.
  5. Manages preferred carrier program with a "plan for every partner" approach. Maintains strong relationships with transportation providers across Mexico, US, and Canada to ensure business continuity, optimal service performance, competitive pricing, and capacity availability while supporting Vertiv's expanding footprint.
  6. Establishes total landed cost and Total Cost of Transportation models in alignment with stakeholders to enable data-driven decision making and mode selection optimization.
  7. Provides leadership to key stakeholders throughout the company, building relationships that facilitate strategic and financial value delivery. Partners with value stream leaders, operations teams, plant management, and customer service to improve transportation performance and service reliability.
  8. Collaborates with global and regional Procurement team in a matrixed environment, supporting transportation initiatives and sharing best practices to standardize processes where applicable. Works closely with US-based transportation leadership to align strategies and leverage enterprise-wide opportunities.
  9. Manages Transportation Management System (TMS) and freight audit processes to ensure accurate billing, optimize routing and carrier selection, track KPIs, and identify continuous improvement opportunities.

Requirements:

  1. Proven experience in ground transportation sourcing and management, including negotiating and contracting for truckload, less-than-truckload, and specialized transportation services (oversized, heavyweight, flatbed, lowboy, stepdeck equipment), with demonstrated track record of managing carrier portfolios and delivering cost savings.
  2. Strong project management capabilities with ability to manage multiple concurrent transportation initiatives across different geographical locations through all phases (planning, bidding, negotiation, implementation).
  3. Transportation network optimization experience, including mode selection analysis, lane optimization, freight consolidation strategies, and carrier network design.
  4. Deep understanding of Mexico transportation regulations, customs processes, and cross-border logistics requirements. Knowledge of US and Canada transportation regulations preferred.
  5. Experience leading cost reduction and continuous improvement initiatives in ground transportation operations with measurable financial results and service improvements.
  6. Proficiency with Transportation Management Systems (TMS) and freight audit systems, including experience implementing, optimizing, and managing these tools to drive visibility, cost savings, and operational efficiency.
  7. Proficiency with modern productivity tools including consumer AI applications (e.g., large language models like ChatGPT, Claude, etc.) to enhance analysis, documentation, and decision-making efficiency.
  8. Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with ability to build cross-functional relationships and present compelling business cases to senior leadership. Strong English language proficiency required for collaboration with US-based teams.
  9. Spanish language proficiency required for Mexico operations; English proficiency required for regional collaboration
