The Maine Woods Initiative (MWI) is AMC’s approach to land conservation in the 100-Mile Wilderness. This model combines outdoor recreation, resource protection, sustainable forestry, and community partnerships. AMC has conserved over 114,000 acres of forestland, developed more than 120 miles of trails, and operates three lodges that support both guest experiences and conservation outcomes.
The Medawisla Lodge Manager is responsible for delivering full-service guest experiences year-round, including winter, summer, and fall operations, as well as managing shoulder season transitions from November – December and March - April. This position lives on-site as needed and serves as the primary resident host and leader of lodge operations, staff, and overall guest experience in a remote setting.
What You'll Be Doing at AMC
- Lead all aspects of lodge operations, including hiring, training, supervising, and supporting staff while fostering a collaborative, high-performing team culture
- Deliver welcoming, attentive, and consistent full-service guest experiences across all seasons
- Oversee daily operations including lodging, dining services, housekeeping, facilities, and grounds
- Ensure high-quality meal service within budget, maintain safe and efficient operations of buildings and systems, and uphold AMC standards across both the main lodge and any satellite guest accommodations
- Manage off-grid systems including heat and power, support AMC programs and guest activities, and ensure smooth seasonal transitions through effective planning and execution of opening and closing procedures
- Provide on-call coverage for guest needs and support various special events like weddings and company retreats
QualificationsWhat AMC Is Looking For
- Experienced and hands-on leader with a background in hospitality, lodge management, or a related field who is comfortable living and working in a remote environment
- Strong communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to lead and motivate a team while maintaining a high standard of guest service
- Adaptable and capable of managing a wide range of responsibilities, from guest engagement to facility operations, in a backcountry setting
- Ability to perform physical work, travel in all weather conditions, and safely navigate remote terrain
- Experience with outdoor recreation, along with comfort using or learning systems such as reservation platforms, POS systems, and Microsoft 365 tools
- Valid driver's license, along with the ability to operate a snowmobile in winter conditions
- Aligned with AMC's mission and motivated to create meaningful outdoor experiences that connect guests to the outdoors

Salary range: $45,300.32 - $60,34.00

The initial salary represents our starting point, and our compensation philosophy is designed to reward and recognize the contributions of our employees as they grow within the organization. External candidates typically begin their journey with us at the starting point of the salary range. The final compensation offer will be based on factors such as experience, education, skills and geographic differential relevant to the position, and will be discussed during the interview process.
