Job Description

Who You Are:

A Locomotive Mechanic B you must be qualified to work on diesel-electric locomotives, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in physically demanding conditions. You thrive in a safety-first, team-based environment and have the capacity to learn and apply technical standards.

What You Will Do:

  • Inspect, service and maintain locomotives and railway equipment, in accordance with provincial/federal and company regulations;
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose diesel engine malfunctions and make required repairs;
  • Prepare inspection, maintenance, and work reports, and record details on prescribed forms in accordance with established procedures;
  • Comply with company safety policies and procedures;
  • Work on locomotive air brake systems;
  • Other duties as assigned.

What You Will Bring:

  • Minimum grade 12 diploma completion or GED equivalent;
  • An ability to work on all locomotive systems;
  • Knowledge of locomotive engines and air brakes are an asset;
  • Completion of Heavy-duty Mechanic apprenticeship is an asset;
  • Must have valid and clean BC driver's license;
  • Must be in good physical condition and health; and
  • As per Collective Agreement, article 11.02.1:
    • A Locomotive Mechanic 'B' must be qualified to work on diesel-electric locomotives but may be specialized in any one area and not fully qualified in all. This work could include the electrical, mechanical and air systems.
