Job Description

Lived Experience Engagement Adviser

Location – Parramatta CBD (Hybrid)

Employment type – Ongoing full-time role

Salary - $113,574.00 pa to $125,720.00 pa, plus employer's contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading

Your role

This is a unique opportunity to work for the Office of the NSW Anti-slavery Commissioner (OASC). Your role will support and advise the Commissioner in work relating to People with Lived Experience (PWLE) who have survived or are victims of modern slavery.

You will play a critical role in shaping how the Office engages meaningfully, safely and respectfully with individuals and communities affected by modern slavery. This includes ensuring their voices inform policy, programs, awareness campaigns and strategic communications.

What you’ll do

This role will advise the Commissioner on all matters relating to engagement with PWLE of modern slavery. This will include managing briefings and debriefs for PWLE participating in Office engagement activities.

You will support the implementation of the Office’s Lived Experience Engagement Policy. You’ll work collaboratively across the Office and the Stronger Communities Cluster, as well as non-government, business, research, and community stakeholders across NSW and nationally, whilst contributing to publications and updates showcasing work on PWLE engagement attained by the Office.

You will support the delivery of communications, media, social media, events and stakeholder engagement initiatives, whilst also preparing reports, briefings, updates and materials for internal and external stakeholders.

You will be working in a high paced environment within a larger supportive team where there is a need to manage competing priorities, short deadlines, and heavy workloads at times. The office works remotely (3 days a week) so there is an expectation that you can work independently and effectively manage your time.

OASC is a small statutory office that has 12 approved positions. The office is made up of the Executive Office, Support and Assistance, Comms and Engagement, Business and Human Rights Team and a Policy Team.

The successful candidate will sit within the Communications and Engagement Team and will report to the Communications and Engagement Manager while working closely with the Commissioner. It is expected that the successful candidate will work from 6 Parramatta Square, in Parramatta, one day each week; and at that location or another approved DCJ premises (such as 50 Phillip St, Sydney) a second day each week. There may also be very limited travel required within NSW.

What we’re looking for

We are looking for a dynamic individual with proven judgment providing high-level advice to support effective engagement with vulnerable groups. Lived expertise related to modern slavery is a plus but is not a formal requirement for the role.

You have a can-do attitude, are a team player with a real passion for developing and managing relationships internally and externally with stakeholders, such as NGOs, businesses, community organisations, and government partners.

You can work autonomously, with strong written and verbal communication skills. You are resilient and thrive in a fast-paced environment.

You will have an attention to detail with the ability to assess and prioritise work, escalating as required, to ensure your function is carried out in a timely and efficient way.

If you want to help elevate the voices of PWLE, influence systemic change, and contribute to the elimination of modern slavery in NSW, we’d love to hear from you
