Litigation Counsel - Decatur, IL
This is an exempt level position.

Reporting to the Assistant General Counsel, Litigation, the Litigation Counsel will manage litigation and disputes for the Company, focusing on insured litigation and litigation practice management, including eDiscovery.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Oversee a significant litigation docket of active cases.
  • Handle disputes in a proactive manner and anticipate and mitigate risks to achieve the best result for the Company.
  • Manage government and third-party requests for information related to pending or threatened regulatory inquiries.
  • Select and manage outside counsel efficiently while maximizing value and utilize innovative models to budgeting legal spend.
  • Report on litigation risk and reserves as part of Company’s financial disclosure process.
  • Provide eDiscovery legal support throughout the Company.
  • Partner within Litigation & Regulatory Law team to further litigation best practices and provide lessons-learned training to business teams and internal stakeholders.

Job Requirements:

  • Illinois licensed attorney with at least five (5) years’ litigation experience.
  • Demonstrated experience handling complex litigation and disputes, with a focus on insured litigation.
  • Familiarity with insurance coverage for claims, including reserving and reporting requirements.
  • Outstanding advocacy, presentation, oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and positively influence outcomes.
  • Work independently with general supervision and direction from the Assistant General Counsel, Litigation in furtherance of Litigation & Regulatory Law team goals and the Company’s strategic plan.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced and dynamic environment handling multiple competing tasks simultaneously to closure.
  • Highly motivated, proactive, self-disciplined and team-oriented.

  • The ideal candidate will be a team-oriented, experienced lawyer with a strong complex litigation and litigation management background, preferably with a large global company, top-tier law firm, or government, with experience managing outside counsel, evaluating litigation risk, and setting strategy on a case-by-case level.

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours.

If hired, employees will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base pay (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.

The pay range for this position is expected to be between:

$128,800.00 - $238,900.00

Salaried Incentive Plan

The total compensation package for this position will also include annual bonus and a long-term incentive plan
