Under limited supervision, directs the planning and execution of litigation management reviews and audits. Reviews legal invoices and litigation files for compliance with ERIE’s Outside Counsel Guidelines (OCG), analyze results, and delivers key findings and recommendations to business leaders. Plans and delivers training regarding litigation management and OCG compliance.

  • This role will also be responsible for planning and delivering training and coordinating projects related to litigation management and OCG compliance.
  • The successful candidate will work from home and must reside within ERIE's footprint.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who live within a reasonable driving distance from ERIE's Corporate Office or a Branch Office location.
  • Demonstrated litigation experience is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with legal billing systems is strongly preferred.


*The salary grade offered will be determined based on the successful candidate's location according to ERIE's geographic compensation structure.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Directs, plans, and participates in litigation reviews and audits, including OCG Compliance. Delivers results to leadership.
  • Partners with leadership to develop or maintain the department’s litigation management program and effectiveness of internal controls.
  • Audits legal invoices for compliance with OCG. Creates and provides reports to management.
  • Reviews and analyzes legal expenses to identify trends; make recommendations for improvement.
  • Reports on branch compliance and metrics from Erie Claims Center (ECC) and Legal Exchange (LEX).
  • Trains and mentors.
  • Provides support for electronic legal billing system.
  • Participates in or lead special projects and research activities.
  • Monitors vendor relationships.

Qualifications

Minimum Educational and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and six years of experience handling litigation claims or legal experience, including litigation activities, or equivalent, required; or
  • Associate degree or paralegal certification and eight years of experience handling litigation claims or legal experience, including litigation activities, required; or
  • High school diploma or GED and ten years of experience handling litigation claims or legal experience, including litigation activities, required.

Additional Experience

  • Experience with legal bill systems and spreadsheet software preferred.
  • Willingness to travel and valid driver’s license required.

Designations and/or Licenses

  • Associate in Claims (AIC) or Senior Claim's Law Associate (SCLA) designation preferred.
