Job Description
The Litigation Paralegal will assist attorneys in all aspects of commercial and other litigation matters. Primary responsibilities will consist of filing, discovery, document management, scheduling and handling time-sensitive case management duties. This role may also be responsible for assisting with construction, product liability, administrative law, and other litigation sectors. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of experience in complex commercial or construction litigation, with experience e-filing in the Carolinas.
Where You'll Work
The Litigation Paralegal is an hourly non-exempt position and will work full-time in our Charlotte, North Carolina office.
What You'll Do
- Draft motions, answers and other responsive pleadings, as well as interrogatories, requests for admission, requests for production of documents, notices of depositions, release and dismissal entry, and subpoenas
- Obtain and index all documents provided by the client including chronology of documents
- Assist in all aspects of trial preparation including selection and marketing of exhibits, jury questionnaires and lists, and potential testimony
- Schedule court reporters and conference rooms, as well as witness appointments.
- Review deposition transcripts and prepare outlines
- Attend arbitration/trial with attorney
- Manage expert witness process including scheduling, preparing draft letters to expert(s) and forwarding materials for their review
- Prepare and organize client documents for production, including e-discovery
- Prepare notices of appeal, docketing statements, outline of trial transcript, and post-judgment documents such as praecipes for certificates of judgment and wage/non-wage garnishments
- Conduct limited legal research utilizing Westlaw
- Managing and organizing physical and electronic client files
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree and/or Paralegal Certificate, or equivalent relevant work experience
- At least 5 years of paralegal experience focused on complex commercial or construction litigation; prior trial experience preferred
- Experience e-filing in North Carolina and/or South Carolina required
- Superior research skills, including the use of online services, databases and Westlaw; Relativity or similar litigation software is a plus
- Ability to work independently and part of a team, while maintaining a high degree of confidentiality
- Project and case management skills, including a strong aptitude for managing and prioritizing multiple projects and deadlines

Physical Requirements
- Sits frequently, six out of eight hours per day. Sitting position static for up to one-half hour at a time.
- Lifts and carries up to 20 pounds occasionally, up to one hour per day.
- Bends and stoops occasionally, up to one-half hour per day.
