We're looking for a Litigation Paralegal

We're looking for a Paralegal with experience in debt recovery to join our in-house Litigation team. This is an exciting opportunity to work closely with our team of experienced team of Paralegals and Litigation Team Lead where you'll have a direct hand in shaping case strategies and driving successful outcomes.

The team

The Litigation Paralegal team at iwoca supports the recovery of defaulted loans through legal channels, ensuring cases are handled efficiently, compliantly, and with strong attention to detail.

The team works on accounts that have progressed beyond standard collections activity, managing the end-to-end litigation process in collaboration with external solicitors and internal stakeholders. They combine legal knowledge with operational efficiency to drive recoveries while maintaining fair treatment of customers.

The role

As a Litigation Paralegal, your role will be to:

  • Independently manage and monitor the active litigation and enforcement action taken against a portfolio of users, which may include cases handled by third party debt collectors and solicitors

  • Investigate cases and help decide case recovery strategies to maximise repayment.

  • Cooperate with wider Litigation and Collections team to investigate more complex cases and occasionally advise on the appropriate escalation

  • Raise and manage in-house money claims using MCOL or through the CNBC

  • Complete Court applications to enforce County Court Judgments including charging orders, oral examinations and High Court Enforcement.

  • Prepare winding up petitions and statutory demands

  • Manage defended cases and prepare directions questionnaires, witness statements and other evidence required for hearings and trials

  • Occasionally attend court to swear affidavits

The requirements

We look for people who are smart, humble, motivated and who are always looking to improve.

  • At least 1 year debt recovery or legal support experience in the commercial / business sector

  • Proven experience of raising and managing money claims

  • Experience in business and personal insolvency issues would be hugely beneficial

  • Empathy, forbearance and professionalism

  • Strong communication skills, confidence and diligence

  • Conscientious and thorough, with strong attention to detail

  • The ability to deal with a variety of challenges, innovate and think on your feet

Bonus

  • Experience using MCOL

  • Experience dealing with high value cases and a large portfolio

The salary

Our base salary range in Leeds is £28,000 - £37,000. We want to pay all of our employees fairly, so that’s why we regularly benchmark salaries based on market rates and to recognise your increasing value to our business.

For the first month of the role to complete training, there is a requirement to be in the office three times per week. This will then drop to twice per week after completion of training.
