Job Description

Litigation Manager Job Description

  • Facilitate and monitor all pre-litigation and current litigation associated with facilities assigned to you

  • Act as liaison between facilities and defense counsel to facilitate efficient case management towards resolution

  • Continuous review of open cases and pre-litigation matters to ensure efficient resolution and to alert Deputy General Counsel and escalate issues as needed

  • Coordinate discovery responses on behalf of the facility; identify PMK deponents; explain discovery process to facility

  • Manage case coordination, record collection and other work product efforts including, but not limited to:

    • consistent and ongoing facility communications and legal communications

    • record collection, review and analysis,

    • resolving questions and issues that arise during the pendency of litigation; analyze appropriateness of various legal motions as necessary

    • monitor deadlines and trial dates as appropriate

    • understand and monitor potentially available insurance lines

    • interact with insurance carriers

    • prepare for and attend mediations

    • monitor trials and arbitrations; daily analysis of same

    • provide “lessons learned” to facilities with legal analysis as to why resolutions occurred the way they did

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree from an accredited college/university required

  • Minimum 5 years experience in litigation defense, particularly healthcare/personal injury

  • J.D. preferred

  • Paralegal certificate (optional)

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret legal writings, medical writings, technical periodicals, governmental regulations and understand the effect of same on the assigned caseload. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in a concise manner and present information and respond to questions from managers and employees.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to apply concepts of basic math, percentages, ratios and proportions. Experience with insurance coverage issues preferred.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a wide variety of variables in the litigation setting which affects how best the matter can be efficiently resolved. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Must be able to analyze the facts of a case, apply it to the law of the relevant jurisdiction and determine a reasonable settlement value. Must be able to efficiently resolve cases.
