Job Description

MB Attorney Search is conducting a confidential retained search for a Litigation Associate to join the Environmental and Insurance Recovery practice of an established Indianapolis law firm This role offers the opportunity to join a growing litigation team handling sophisticated, high-stakes matters for major corporate clients while receiving meaningful hands-on experience and direct partner mentorship.

This opportunity is ideal for an attorney with approximately 1–4 years of substantive civil litigation experience who wants to develop as a well-rounded litigator within a collaborative practice. Environmental experience is welcome but not required The firm is primarily focused on identifying a strong junior litigator with excellent writing, analytical, and advocacy skills who enjoys working through complex legal and factual issues.

The practice handles a sophisticated litigation docket involving environmental matters, toxic torts, contaminated-property disputes, insurance recovery, product liability issues, and other complex claims. The group regularly handles significant matters in federal court, including cases that proceed to multi-day jury trials. The incoming associate will have opportunities to assist with trial preparation, attend trials, take depositions, draft substantive motions and briefs, work with experts, and gain meaningful experience alongside accomplished litigators.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with sophisticated civil litigation, including significant federal court matters.
  • Draft substantive motions, briefs, pleadings, and client memoranda.
  • Manage and analyze discovery and complex factual records.
  • Prepare for and participate in depositions, hearings, and trials.
  • Work with expert witnesses and complex technical evidence.
  • Conduct sophisticated legal research and analyze challenging legal and factual issues.
  • Assist with environmental, toxic tort, insurance recovery, and related litigation matters.
  • Communicate with sophisticated corporate clients and collaborate closely with partners and other members of the litigation team.
  • Take on increasing responsibility for matters as experience and capabilities develop.

Qualifications

  • Approximately 1–4 years of substantive civil litigation experience Exceptional candidates outside that range may also be considered.
  • Strong legal research, analytical, and writing skills.
  • Experience with complex litigation, with federal court experience preferred.
  • Exposure to discovery, motion practice, depositions, and/or trial preparation.
  • Strong academic credentials and sound professional judgment.
  • Ability and interest in working through technically and factually complex matters.
  • Environmental litigation or insurance coverage experience is helpful but not required.
  • Attorneys with backgrounds in commercial litigation, product liability, toxic tort, construction litigation, insurance coverage, or other sophisticated civil litigation are encouraged to apply.
  • Licensed to practice law in Indiana or able to become admitted in Indiana promptly without sitting for another bar examination.
  • Genuine interest in building a long-term practice in Indianapolis.

What Makes This Opportunity Unique

  • Meaningful jury trial experience. The practice handles significant, multi-day jury trials, giving associates opportunities to work alongside experienced trial lawyers in preparing cases for trial and attending the trials themselves—valuable experience that can be difficult for junior litigators to obtain early in their careers.
  • Sophisticated, high-stakes work. The group represents major corporate and Fortune 100 clients in complex matters involving significant financial and operational stakes, including substantial federal court disputes.
  • Hands-on litigation experience. Associates have opportunities to take depositions, draft substantive motions and briefs, work with experts, assist with trial strategy and preparation, communicate with clients, and assume increasing responsibility as they develop.
  • Direct partner mentorship. The associate will work closely with experienced attorneys with backgrounds in environmental litigation, federal court litigation, insurance recovery, corporate environmental counseling, and senior in-house roles.
  • A demonstrated path to partnership. The practice is looking for an attorney to develop over the long term, with a track record of helping associates progress into increasingly sophisticated litigation responsibilities and ultimately partnership.
  • Investment in long-term career development. Associates are encouraged to begin developing their professional visibility, business-development skills, and client relationships well before reaching partnership.
  • Growth driven by client demand. The position is being added because of the practice's continued growth and active litigation docket, rather than attrition or an effort to hire ahead of available work.
  • Collaborative culture. The group offers a team-oriented environment where attorneys work closely together and partners are invested in associate training and development.
  • Flexibility and balance. The firm offers reasonable billable expectations and periodic work-from-home flexibility while maintaining meaningful in-office time for mentorship, collaboration, and professional development.

Compensation

Base compensation begins at approximately $165,000+, depending on experience, qualifications, and overall fit.

Location

Indianapolis, Indiana.

This is an in-person position. The firm offers some flexibility, but associates are expected to spend meaningful time in the Indianapolis office to support collaboration, training, and professional development.

To Apply

Submit your resume to MB Attorney Search for confidential consideration. Candidates selected for an initial screening interview will receive additional information regarding the firm, practice, compensation, and overall opportunity.

Additional materials, including a law school transcript and substantive writing sample, may be requested later in the process if relevant. All inquiries will be handled with strict confidentiality, and candidate materials will not be shared with our client without your prior consent.
