The Division of Rehabilitation Services is seeking to hire a Literacy, Technology & Media Coordinator to select and evaluate adapted/assistive devices, resources, materials to support the needs of students with low vision or blindness for the Illinois School for the Visually Impaired (ISVI). The incumbent coordinates library programs with print, Braille, audio, visual needs. This position prepares and coordinates school-wide ELA/reading goal. Updates the attendance database, keeps current grades, maintains discipline in class and between classes. The Division is looking to hire a detail-oriented educator with good communication and leadership skills to start the 2026-2027 school year.

Essential Functions

  • Serves as Literacy, Technology & Media Coordinator.
  • Prepares and coordinates school-wide ELA/reading goal along with the SLP team.
  • Coordinates library programs with print, Braille and their tactical literacy, audio, visual needs.
  • Supervises the care and maintenance of equipment in library as well as Room for Assistive Technology Equipment (RATE).
  • Updates the attendance database, keeps current grades, maintains discipline in class and between classes.
  • Attends and participates in APH (American Printing House) meetings, staff meetings and professional development in relation to areas of endorsement.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires possession of a current and valid ISBE-issued Professional Educator License with endorsement appropriate for Teacher of Students who are blind or visually impaired prekindergarten through age 22.
  • Requires proficiency in Braille when instructing students who are blind or visually impaired.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One (1) year of professional experience working with media used for students who have visual impairments and blindness such as Braille and or other technologies.
  • One (1) year of professional experience utilizing current educational trends, techniques, and best practices.
  • One (1) year of professional experience preparing written documentation related to student performance and education.
  • One (1) year of professional experience using the tools, materials and equipment associated with required coursework.
  • One (1) year of professional experience maintaining patience and tolerance while working with students with a wide range of behaviors.
  • One (1) year of professional experience maintaining effective working relationships with staff, assigned students and parents.

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
  • Must meet Illinois School for the Visually Impaired health and safety requirements.
  • Requires ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Work Hours: Mon-Fri, 8am-3:45pm, 30 minute unpaid lunch.
