K–8 Literacy Coordinator
Reports To: Director of Literacy
Location: Tempe, AZ
Salary Range: $62,000-65,000/ annually DOE
Travel Requirements
This role requires regular travel to multiple AMS campuses throughout Arizona to support instructional coaching, professional development, and literacy initiatives.
Occasional out-of-state travel may be required approximately once per quarter to support network-wide initiatives, conferences, or strategic academic planning.
Candidates must be able to travel as needed to fulfill the responsibilities of the role.
The K–8 Literacy Coordinator is a key instructional leader on the Academics Team, reporting to the Director of Literacy. This role focuses on improving literacy outcomes across all grade levels and content areas, with an emphasis on K–3 foundational literacy and the Science of Reading. The coordinator supports curriculum development, assessments, and professional development aligned to Arizona’s College and Career Ready Standards and statewide assessments.
By partnering with campus and network leaders, the Literacy Coordinator ensures instructional alignment, coaching support, and data-driven decision-making that drive network-wide academic growth.
Core Responsibilities:
Curriculum & Instruction
Develop and revise literacy curriculum, including unit plans, lessons, assessments, and pacing guides.
Ensure alignment to Arizona standards and integrate literacy across content areas.
Lead implementation of K–3 foundational literacy practices grounded in the Science of Reading and MOWR legislation.
Professional Development & Coaching
Design and facilitate training sessions for teachers and leaders using the AMS coaching model.
Provide instructional coaching through modeling, co-planning, and feedback cycles.
Lead PLCs and workshops to build capacity in structured literacy and vertical alignment.
Use data from TeachBoost and other tools to refine support strategies.
Leadership & Collaboration
Collaborate with school and network teams to promote high-quality ELA instruction.
Participate in instructional rounds and analyze trends to inform next steps.
Work closely with Special Education and ELL teams to support diverse learners.
Monitor the impact of literacy initiatives and support continuous improvement.
Maintain a strategic calendar aligned to academic priorities and school needs.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s or literacy-related certification preferred.
At least 3 years of successful ELA teaching experience.
Strong background in K–3 literacy instruction and the Science of Reading.
Familiarity with Arizona College and Career Ready Standards and MOWR.
Experience designing curriculum, analyzing data, and coaching teachers.
Skilled in adult learning, PD facilitation, and instructional leadership.
