Our Linen Handler is responsible for performing a variety of routine tasks related to the distribution and collection of linens. This role ensures the timely and accurate delivery and pickup of linen supplies to all designated Memorial Health departments and units, supporting smooth daily operations and maintaining high service standards.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Licensure/Certification/Registry:
Valid Illinois driver’s license preferred
Experience:
Experience in healthcare support services, hospital or commercial laundry, hospitality, or a related field preferred
Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Demonstrated ability to effectively use computers and/or mobile devices to perform daily job activities.
Capable of moderate to heavy physical effort, including lifting up to 50 lbs. and pushing or pulling carts weighing up to 400 lbs., often in a hot, humid work environment.
Clean Linen Distribution:
Move clean linen stock throughout the facility using linen carts and various linen containers in support of the linen distribution plan.
Transport loaded linen carts/containers from the receiving dock to the staging area.
Deliver loaded linen carts/containers to designated areas for use.
Return partially used linen carts/containers to the staging area.
Move partial linen carts/containers to the loading dock for shipment.
Soiled Linen Handling:
Transport soiled linen throughout the facility using linen carts and containers per the linen distribution plan.
Pick up and move soiled linen carts/containers from soiled linen chute rooms to the holding area or loading dock for shipment.
Pick up and move soiled linen carts/containers from designated soiled rooms to the holding area or loading dock for shipment.
Infection Prevention:
Follow all infection prevention practices, including proper cleaning and disinfection protocols, hand hygiene, standard and isolation precautions, and correct donning and doffing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Safety Compliance:
Adhere to all organizational safety, risk management, and infection control guidelines while promoting a culture of safety.
Laundry Equipment Operation:
Operate washers, dryers, and other laundry equipment as required.
Independent Work and Responsiveness:
Work effectively and efficiently with limited supervision.
Respond promptly to all pages and calls regarding linen while maintaining required documentation.
Specialty Tasks:
Perform additional facility-specific tasks as needed, such as building clean linen carts, loading/unloading linen trucks, and other related duties.
