Line Troubleshooter (Journey Level)
Relocation assistance will be provided to the successful candidate. Additionally, the starting pay rate is $66.01 followed by an increase to $69.31 after six months.
Colorado Springs Utilities is seeking an experienced journey-level Line Troubleshooter to support the safe, reliable operation of our electric transmission and distribution system. You will leverage your expertise in electric distribution operations to perform transmission and distribution switching, support emergency restoration efforts, and coordinate planned outages. Your work will directly impact the reliability and safety of our electric system serving more than 500,000 customers across the Front Range.
Please note that this position requires working on-call, overtime, weekends, holidays, etc. as business needs dictate. Additionally, this position requires the successful candidate to live within 40 minutes of our System Energy Control Center facility (213 Nichols Blvd., Colorado Springs, CO 80907) to ensure a timely response per emergency events.
What Else Will You be Doing?
- Performing electric distribution and transmission switching for planned maintenance, repairs, and emergency restoration activities
- Establishing clearances, hotline holds, and switching boundaries to ensure safe work conditions
- Responding to electric outages and emergency service calls to support timely system restoration
- Assisting with troubleshooting and restoration of underground and overhead electric distribution systems
- Coordinating scheduled and emergency outages with residential and commercial customers, contractors, and electricians
- Inspecting, testing, and evaluating electrical equipment and system components for damage, reliability, and safe operation
- Supporting maintenance activities involving overhead and underground power lines, transformers, switches, and related equipment
- Safely handling and disposing of hazardous materials associated with utility equipment and operations
- Following established operating procedures, switching practices, safety rules, and regulatory requirements
- Working closely with field crews, operations personnel, and system control staff to maintain reliable electric service
Who You Are
- Two or more years of journey lineman experience
- Completion of a Line Technician Apprenticeship program
- Possession of a valid CDL Class A license
We are also interested in your knowledge and proficiency with any of the following:
- Knowledge of electrical system principles, voltage requirements, equipment, installation, and maintenance
- Knowledge of metering principles and practices
- Skill in installing and maintaining electrical distribution and transmission systems
- Ability to interpret specifications, schematics, and written instructions
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Exerts in excess of 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Heavy Work. Positions in this class typically require reaching, standing, walking, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
