About the Opportunity

There are (2) open positions with Ohio Edison Service Company, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp.

Duties

Under general directive supervision, directs and leads the activities of a crew of not more than three other employees engaged in the construction, maintenance and repair work on distribution, sub-transmission and transmission circuits and equipment; participates in the work as an active Lineman including the necessary pole top functions and other duties of a Lineman A: performs duties in connection with the location and isolation of gaults and restoration of service on distribution, sub-transmission, and transmission lines and related equipment; completes assignments at times with the assistance of other employees; performs duties such as:

  1. Directing and leading a crew of not more than three other employees engaged in the operation, construction, maintenance and repair work on distribution, sub-transmission, and transmission circuits and equipment including gloving energized primary as part of a crew;
  2. Directing and leading other employees working with him in locating and repairing faults on lines and equipment during the normal workday or at other times;
  3. Directing and training other employees working with him in their duties and Safe work practices and procedures; instructing employees in construction, maintenance repair and safety practices and procedures.
  4. Taking all necessary measures to protect and safeguard the public, employees, equipment, property, and service.
  5. Assigning to employees working with him those duties appropriate to their job classifications;
  6. Interpreting drawings, designs, plans and work orders and issuing instructions for the proper performance of work;
  7. Requisitioning of materials, tools, spare parts and any other needed supplied;
  8. Completing written reports of work performed; recording and reporting time and materials used;
  9. Reporting at fires or accident scenes; clearing wires, de-energizing electric service when needed; isolating sections of lines; cooperating with public authorities;
  10. Determining the extent of necessary repairs and requesting appropriate assistance for repairs when necessary;
  11. Handling meter turn-ons and turn-offs, connecting and disconnecting service at the pole and collecting money, as required;
  12. May direct the activities of a small office or use his home as a remote location;
  13. Performing the duties of a Lineman A and or other similar or less skilled work as assigned.

Qualifications

Must meet the Company’s requirements as to General Qualifications; must have all the qualifications of a Lineman A and in addition:

  1. Must have successfully completed all job skills demonstrations for Lineman A and lower classifications in the line of progression;
  2. Must have at least two years experience as a Lineman A, or the equivalent;
  3. Must have demonstrated aptitude and ability in the performance of Lineman A;
  4. Must have a thorough practical knowledge of the operation of the Company’s electric distribution, sub-transmission, and the transmission systems in the area to which he is assigned, including the protective device’s such as oil circuit breakers, lightning arrestors, switching and grounding equipment, transformers, regulators, capacitors, and similar devices and equipment;
  5. Must be familiar with the procedures and rules for ordering out and locking and tagging circuits, the Company’s identification for circuits, and the Manual of Operations;
  6. Must have a thorough working knowledge of the operation, construction, maintenance, and repair work on distribution, sub-transmission and transmission circuits and equipment and safety rules, practices and procedures applicable to the work;
  7. Must have an aptitude for leadership and must have demonstrated initiative, judgement, and the ability and willingness to assume responsibility;
  8. Must have demonstrated ability to receive and pass on orders and instructions in a manner that will maintain harmony and safety, and obtain cooperation and satisfactory work results from employees assigned to him/her, and
  9. Must be able to make clear, concise and accurate reports and records and properly received and quickly and accurately interpret orders;
  10. Must have the necessary tact, judgement, pleasant manner and near appearance for customer interaction;
  11. Must possess a valid State of Ohio, Bureau of Motor Vehicles Commercial Driver’s License with an required endorsements, and any Department of Transportation required licenses, endorsements or certifications.
